William Jensen Auger, 99, passed away November 18, 2023. He was born on January 16, 1924 at the farm home in Glendale, Idaho, northeast of Preston. He was the ninth child of William Henry and Alta Jensen Auger. His first eight years of education was in Glendale graduating from Preston High School in 1942.
Bill married Deone Hall on February 13, 1943 and a week later left to serve in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was an electrician mate and operated the ships gyro compass. Upon his discharge, Bill and Deone made their home in Preston. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple.
No one was ever a stranger to Bill. He could converse with anyone, anytime in any situation. Bill worked many years as an automobile parts manager and raised thousands of sheep and sold his lambs for decades. Bill and Deone were ballroom dance instructors for many years, winning several awards including the regional championship in 1959. Bill was a lifelong member of the American Legion serving many years as the Post Commander, District Commander and started the flag program on the main street in Preston and marking the graves of veterans in the Preston Cemetery.
Bill was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including; ward Sunday school presidency, ward clerk and stake clerk as well as ward seventies leader.
He had many skills and could fix just about anything that needed repair using twine, baling wire and/or duct tape. Bill always helped out friends and family without hesitation. His sense of humor, love of friends and family will have a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His greatest joy was having all of his family home for cookouts and spending time on the farm and most of all caring for his sheep. Bill lived a good long life and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his eldest daughter, Dr. Leigh Maret and grandson Jordan Baker. He is survived by his wife Deone, his children; Shari (Daniel) Leavitt, Stites, Idaho; Kevin (JoAnn) Auger, Woodland Hills, Utah; Tony (Tami) Auger, Ogden, Utah; and Kaye Komar, Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 100 S. Preston, Idaho. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E., Preston, and again prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Military rites and interment will be in the Preston Idaho Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to: Huntsmancancerdonation.org in the name of Leigh Maret.
