Warren Herman Johnson

Warren Herman Johnson, beloved father, brother, and grandfather passed away September 3, 2022, at the age of 85 in his home in Preston, Idaho.

Warren was born May 21, 1937, in Fosston, Minnesota, to Harry Gehnard and Octavia Lillian Garcelon Johnson. He was the third of four children who were raised on a farm in the small town of Gully, Minnesota. His love for the outdoors was established as he hunted and worked on the farm and with his father who was a water well driller.  Warren’s love of country led him to enlist in the Marine Corps in California soon after high school. This is where he later met and married Cora Lee Tompkins in 1959. They traveled extensively throughout his military career.

Falling back to what Warren knew as a water well driller, he worked several years with his father which later led the family to Utah.

Warren was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Warren served faithfully in many callings but especially loved teaching Scouts survival skills and taking them camping, hiking, and canoeing.

After losing Cora in 2013, Warren moved to Preston.  He spent much of his time serving in the temple, keeping track of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Warren had a lovely neighbor that he became friends with, Claudia Nash, whom he married in 2020. Her friendship and companionship over the last two and a half years have been a blessing in his life.

Warren was always serving others. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those who were regular recipients of his goodies.

Warren is survived by his wife Claudia Jensen Nash Johnson, of Preston, and her large family that he loved.  He is survived by his five daughters, Terasa Pratt of Glendale, AZ; Erica (Ed, deceased) Rich of Weston, Idaho; Leiza (Brad) Povey of Clifton, Idaho; Brenna Steed of Casper, Wyoming; and Dana (Jared) Chiara of Price, Utah. He is also survived by his brother Lowell (Karen) Johnson of Perham, Minnesota, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren scattered across the western U.S. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gaynor L. Johnson; sister, Doris Calhoon; and Cora.
