Tina Smedley entered the world on November 20, 1948, in Riverside, California, the cherished daughter of George Sylvester Whiting and Elaine Brown Whiting. She was welcomed into eternity by her parents, her brother Curtiss Bradley, and her grandson Baby Blair Simmons.
Those who loved her best remain to carry her light forward—her husband and lifelong companion, Glenn Baird Smedley who was the steady center of her world; her children Cory (and Michelle), Amy (and Blair), Jennie (and Billy), Kip (and Monique), and Abbie; her many grandchildren Talon (and Elizabeth), Jaycee, Hannah (and Tate), Hayden, Sydney (and Ty), Shandi, Hunter, Nate (and Emmy), Remington, and River; and her great-grandchildren McCoy, Elliot, Isaac, Hazel, and Wrenleigh. She is also succeeded by her brother, George Sylvester Whiting II (and Vickie), whose presence was an anchor throughout her life.
Tina’s story is woven from sunshine and snow—born in the warmth of Southern California only to find herself in the waist deep winters of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She graduated from Jackson Hole High School in 1966. Not long after, she met Glenn at Rick’s college on a blind date to an orientation assembly. From that simple moment bloomed a marriage rooted in devotion, laughter, and a quiet enduring tenderness. They were sealed in the Logan Temple and eventually made their home in Preston where Tina poured her heart into raising their five children.
She loved the world and went out to meet it. Travel thrilled her—Africa, Thailand, Hawaii and the road stretching ahead of the family motorhome were among her favorite places to breathe. She loved sports and concerts, crafts and friendships, and the everyday miracles of a life shared with others. Tina raised children—her own and many who simply needed someone like her with open arms and steady love. Service was her natural language and she expressed it in small kindnesses and lifelong devotion.
Her presence rippled outward into her community. She helped with the Miss Franklin County Pageants, sang with the Rotary Choir, volunteered in schools, and worked in places where her warmth could brighten a stranger’s day—O.P. Skaggs, the jewelry counter at ZCMI, and as a travel agent. For a time, she drove buses in Jackson for Alltrans. She also found joy and sisterhood as a member of the Red Hat Society.
Tina passed away 5 days before her 77th birthday, following a thankfully brief battle with cancer. She left this world wrapped in the love she spent a lifetime giving.
Her family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Beckstead and Carla Miles for their compassion and care.
There will be a celebration of life on her birthday, Thursday, November 20th, 2025, at 12pm at the Preston South Stake Center. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
