Terry Ray Spencer

Terry Ray Spencer passed away peacefully at his home in Pleasant View, Utah on July 20, 2026, just shy of his 88th birthday.

Terry Ray Spencer was born on July 29, 1938, in Price, Utah to Kenneth E Spencer and Ruth Melba Morrison. Terry’s father was a traveling salesman, so his family lived in many different places in his early years including Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon. When he was in sixth grade, they settled in Redding, California. While attending high school, Terry learned how to fix televisions and radios. This turned into a lifelong hobby that his family members enjoyed, since he was often better than the professionals at fixing things.

After graduating from Shasta High School, Terry joined the Air Force. During his four years of service, he spent time in Japan and Washington. After his time in the Air Force, Terry got his associate’s degree at Shasta College. He then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Brigham Young University. Later in his career Terry was one of five civilians invited to attend the Air Force Air Command Staff College. He took advantage of this opportunity and stood his own among the military attendees. At the same time, he took night classes at Troy University and received an MBA.

Terry met his future wife Margaret Hall while living in Kaysville, Utah. They are a blind date success story! They began married life in a tiny apartment in Kaysville. Before their son Burtis was born, they bought a house in Layton, Utah. Terry worked for the government, so they moved around a great deal. They spent time in Utah, Ohio, and Maryland. When Terry retired, he returned to Redding, California, to help care for his father. They lived there until moving to Pleasant View, Utah, a few years ago to be closer to family.

Terry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings but spent most of his time in the clerk’s office in various capacities. He enjoyed serving a work mission managing the Bishop’s Storehouse in Washington D.C. after retiring. Terry loved everything about the church. At the end of his life, he asked multiple times every day if it was Sunday, because he wanted to go to church.

Terry had many different hobbies. He loved old cars and had quite a collection (models, not the real thing). He enjoyed running, camping, canoeing, and swimming. Terry also had a love of dogs and always told stories about his old dogs. After his last dog passed away, he borrowed the neighbor’s dogs and took them for walks. He spent hours on the trails in Redding.

Terry loved his family fiercely and was very proud of each of them. He loved being a grandpa and looked forward to when his grandkids would visit and swim in his pool. He always kept it immaculately clean. Dementia took away many of Terry’s memories, but he never forgot about Margaret. If she wasn’t around, he wanted to know where she was and when she would be back. He knew she would always take care of him and keep him safe, and she did. They had a special relationship.

We will miss Terry, but we are so happy that he is free from his suffering here on this earth. As Terry would always say when we were saying goodbye, “See ya later alligator.” We love you!

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hall; son, Burtis Spencer (Shana); grandchildren, Alex and Kayla Spencer; and siblings, Kathy and Robert Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Ruth Spencer, and his brother, Kenneth Spencer.

We express our sincere appreciation for Intermountain Hospice and Cornerstone Care for the way they treated Terry at the end of his life. They were a blessing and comfort. We couldn’t have managed this without them.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11 am at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, Idaho. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Fairview Idaho Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
