Terri Lee Buttars Burton, 74 passed away peacefully at her home in Preston, Idaho on Thursday, December 18, 2025. She was born on August 4, 1951 in Logan, Utah to Rolland Kent and Joyce Whitehead Buttars. She married James “Jim” Legrand Burton on June 20, 1969 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Terri grew up loving horses. She spent many hours and days on her grandfather’s and grandmother’s farm. She cared deeply for them and would move sprinkler pipe or thin sugar beets just to spend time with them.
She was very compassionate and had a giving heart. Her mother told her that she would never have a quarter to her name because she would always give it to someone else.
Terri graduated from Preston High School in 1969. During the high school years she was a member of and one of the drill leaders of the Phi-Dels Marching Corps. She as proud that she participated the year that the Phi Dels were the Idaho state champions. She was a wonderful cook and always had a meal ready for the family to enjoy as they would gather regularly around the dinner table at the end of a long day.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held positions in the primary, young women’s, and three Relief Society Presidencies. She served two years as a member of the Miss Rodeo Utah Committee and judged many Miss Rodeo competitions during that time.
She is survived by her husband James L. Burton, of Preston, ID; a daughter Sandy (Scott) Spencer, of Huntsville, UT; and five sons Russel J. (Melissa) Burton, West Haven, UT; Justin L. (Brin) Burton, Robin, ID; Wyatt M. (Raven) Burton, Huntsville, UT; Jordan L. Burton, Brigham City, UT; and Tyler J. Burton of Preston, ID. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, and a daughter, Shelece Burton.
A viewing will be held Friday, December 26, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston, Idaho. A celebration of life for Terri will be held at a later date after the holidays at the Copper Nickle Events Center, 2450 Grant Ave in Ogden, UT 84401. The times and date will be shared on social media and local newspapers when that has been determined. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com.
