Steven Delbert Kimpton

Steven Delbert Kimpton 77, passed away on December 14, 2025 at the Franklin County Transition Care Center from Congestive Heart Failure. He was born July 22, 1948 to Lloyd Delbert and Martha Retura Kimpton, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was raised with three older brothers, George, Dave, Danny and one sister, Rose, on the family farm out by the Amalgamated Sugar Factory. He attended Bickle elementary and then graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1966.

After high school he began to learn computer programming at a college in Washington, but soon found it wasn’t for him. He then attended Weiser College where he certified in operating heavy equipment. In 1969 he was drafted and began his army training in Fort Ord, California and then was sent to Korea. Steve was put in charge of driving the Major, Captain and Lieutenant around in a green willy’s jeep. All his spare time on the barracks was spent playing chess and he was very hard to beat. He had an honorable discharge and in November of 1971 he began working at the Inkom Port of Entry as a weigh-master weighing in the big semi-trucks.

Besides driving fast cars, Steve loved being in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and hiking. Each summer he would spend time hiking in the wilderness areas of Atlanta and Stanley with his brothers looking for arrow heads and gold.

In 1976 he met and married Janet Bullock in Elko, Nevada, and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple. In 1978 he transferred to the Bliss Port of Entry and bought a house in Glenn Ferry to expand his family. After only two years there, he was transferred to Preston, Idaho where his 29 years of service for the Idaho State Police began.

In June of 1992 they purchased a small 14-acre piece of land in Fairview so that Steve could once again pretend to be a farmer. He raised some steers every year and a little hay. This seemed to satisfy the farm boy in him and gave him the needed break from doing police work.

Retirement from the Idaho State Police began in 2000. But to his dismay, Janet said he was too young to just stay home and not work, so he started working part-time at the Franklin County Landfill operating that big equipment that he loved. After having some heart issues, he decided to become a driver’s skills tester for Class D drivers and a CDL testers. He said the old people’s driving always scared him more than the younger ones. As his health began to diminish his love of fast cars had to be satisfied by watching endless hours of the Barrett Jackson Car Auction.

Steven is survived by his wife, Janet, their four children, Jeremy (Shantel) of Preston; Stacie Bosen, Twin Falls; Jamie (Andrew) Turner and Tyler (Sandi) of Preston. A sister Rose, Twin Falls; brother Dave, Stanley and eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
