Shirley Carlisle Hymas graduated from this existence at home in Lewiston, on Friday, May 22, 2026. She was 88 years old. She was born on June 27, 1937, in Murray, Salt Lake County, Utah to Owen John and LaReta Hansen Carlisle. She was the third child and oldest daughter.
She graduated from Granite High School. Married Arthur Gilbert “Art” Hymas, July 1, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with seven children, one boy and six girls. She was a woman of many talents and used those talents to teach her children and help provide for her family. She became an accomplished seamstress and teacher. She taught many children sewing in the 4-H program. Besides the girls, she also taught a couple of secret classes of boys. She taught many women throughout the Northern Utah and Southern Idaho area. She taught lingerie, sewing with knits and machine embroidery before special sewing machines came available. She was a thread artist!
She loved to share her talents to bless others. It may have been through a loaf of bread or gingerbread cookies delivered for no reason other than she thought of the recipient that day. Or a set of monogrammed towels for a recently called missionary or a CTR towel for a newly baptized member. Her talents led her to being called as a Service Missionary for the Logan Utah Mission. We could continue on about how she loved to serve but she preferred to serve quietly behind the scenes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and three sons-in-law. She is survived by her children, Mike, Cheryl, Karen, Debbie, Sandra, Patty and Connie and their respective spouses, 24 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and two sisters
The family would like to thank Ascend Hospice, especially Bekah and Sammie and Dr Beckstead and his staff for their excellent care.
At Shirley’s request there will not be a viewing or formal funeral as she preferred to go quietly, without a lot of fanfare. There will be a small graveside service.
