Sefton “Sef” Patric Wilde, 40, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Preston, Idaho. He was born on October 3, 1985, in Polson, Montana to Rob and Pat Wilde.
He loved his wife Erin and his children Maggie, Porter, Gid and MJ more than anything else in this world. Sef always wanted people to feel safe and comfortable. He enjoyed spending time with his family hiking, watching movies, going for treats and anything to do with water, which was his happy place. He really enjoyed seeing his kids happy and was interested in the things that they are interested in. He was the master of all bad dad jokes.

Sef loved deeply and he was loved so deeply in return. Here are some memories from his children and family members:
Maggie remembers a time when her dad lost his wallet when she was quite young. He was looking underneath the couch when she put her hands on his head and started giving him a blessing that he would find his wallet.
Porter says “I was up at Soda Springs after a basketball game. Dad wanted to take me home so I said yes. We stopped at a gas station in town to get some snacks and drinks. After careful consideration, we decided on some sour patch kids but not just any pack, the family size. On the way home we ate that entire bag. Pulling into the driveway with numb tongues, he says, “Totally worth it!”
Gid loved it when he and his dad went on hikes. He loved playing NBA 2K on the PSA. He also loved playing football and basketball with him.
MJ said; “When I was younger, I loved dressing my dad up. One time I dressed him up into a fairy and I took a picture. It was awesome! I love my dad so much.”
Erin - We did some amazing things like taking the kids to the Oregon coast, traveling to Amsterdam and talking about what Jason Asano would do in any given situation. But my favorite memories are just of who he was. He was easy to laugh with. He was so understanding of who people are and where they are at in life. He got so excited to share insights and stories and hear our insights and stories. We just loved connecting with each other
Ivan (father-in-law) loved that Sef took the time to stop what he was doing when he saw something during a drive and he would get out to take a picture and then share what he saw with the rest of us. He saw beauty in everything!
Cambria said that one time quite recently Sef had just barely moved into their Richmond house and Maggie and I had just finished a dance performance. I saw him soon after and we greeted each other and I told him that I was both excited and sad for them because it’s a nice house but now they felt ages away. He laughed about it and that next weekend when Maggie Porter, Gid and MJ came home, the first thing I heard out of anyones mouth was…”So Dad told us what you said the other day….” I burst out laughing! Oh, and he taught me how to catch and throw a football. He was very theatrical.

He was a bright light. You felt seen and heard when you were with him. He made room for differing opinions with love and grace. He was Hella hilarious!
It seems like you two connected at the soul and you loved each other to the core
You never felt like a stranger around him, he was always warm and accepting.
I love that his baseline was calm and that's why he hated playing cards with us
From his mother-in-law Michelle
He was always thinking of you and the kids.
He always had time for the nieces and nephews.
He was a great guy
From his sister Alyson
The first time Scott met my family was when I brought him to Aunt Lynne's house. Mom and Dad and Sef and our cousin, Kristen, were there. Well, we started playing cards the way Wildes play cards--cheating and swearing. I think at one point we forgot whose turn it was, and Sef says, "It's Baldilocks!" (Referring to Scott). Well, there was a collective pause of shock, and then Sef adds, "Well, somebody was gonna say it sooner or later!" And then we all burst out laughing.
Also, Sef could make friends with anyone. He was quick witted, but compassionate and he'd do anything for you. Road trips with him were always hilarious, as were games, and movies. He would wrestle with Garrett and they tried to rip out each other's arm hair, but Sef would lose cuz he was rather hairy :)

Memories
From his mom Pat
Sef was so hairy that he was the only one in 8th grade that could grow a mustache. :)
He was a sweetheart, not very outgoing but if he was your friend he’d do anything to help or support
Loved the water, especially the ocean. The best sense of humor, great son.
From his brother-in-law Joe
He loved his people. He would go anywhere and do anything for them. Once you became one of his people you stayed that way.
He loved laughing and loved helping other people laugh to help them feel better. He was always really good at looking at things a different way so that you could have more empathy for people.
He loved all kids, especially his own of course, but every kid knew that they were important to him.
