Ruby Fay Preston Edwards

Ruby Fay Preston Edwards, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully after a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Ruby was born September 7, 1938, in Carson, California, to Ernest and Helen Preston. She was raised in Carson and later made Preston, Idaho, her home, living between California and Preston throughout her life.

Ruby met her husband, Dennis, when they were only 13 years old at a church dance. They eventually dated and then married in the LDS temple in Los Angeles, California on January 18, 1957.

Ruby was a devoted mother to her six children: sons Brent, Dean, Bobby, and Jayme, and daughters Denise Maseuli and Laura Arevalo. Her greatest joy was her family, and her love extended to her 23 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren, with 1 more on the way. She had a special gift for making people feel loved, welcomed, and important.

Ruby enjoyed adventures and the outdoors. She and her husband, Dennis, prioritized time at the ocean with the family, road trips and camping as often as possible in Mammoth Pools.

Ruby’s faith was an important part of her life. Alongside her husband, Dennis, she served a mission in Peru for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This was an experience that became a treasured part of her life and strengthened her love for people and for the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is at least one little girl named after Ruby who lives in Peru. The parents wanted to honor the woman who helped bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to their small family.

Ruby lived a simple life, but her legacy is anything but simple. She and her family were blessed by a life filled with love, service, forgiveness, faith, and countless memories. She taught those around her that the greatest things in life are found in the way we love and care for one another.

Ruby was a lifelong learner and spent time in many subjects, learning the Spanish language, and writing stories on many topics. Ruby constantly wrote letters and kept up with loved ones on birthdays and stayed actively in touch with family and lifelong friends. Ruby loved submitting articles to The Preston Citizen over the years and used her creativity, love of sports, and sense of humor to create many fun pieces.

In her final years, Ruby made her home at Heritage Home in Preston, where she was surrounded by caring staff and friends. She especially enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, writing plays and visiting with others. Her plays were enjoyed by all and created fun activities that all got to enjoy.Those who knew and cared for her there became an important part of her life, and her family is deeply grateful for the kindness, compassion, and love shown to her.

In true Ruby fashion, she rode on the float with Heritage Home in the Preston Rodeo parade just weeks before her passing. She also got herself over to the Franklin County Fair to make sure she could submit her collection of stories. She was so happy to have earned another blue ribbon and proudly held that up with her $3.00 for one of the final photos ever taken of her. Of course she had a huge smile, because Ruby always managed to smile. There was no doubt that she lived her life fully right up to the end and like any devoted athlete, she "left it all on the field".

Ruby will be remembered not only for the years she lived, but for the love she gave. Her greatest legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply, but who will carry her love, her faith, and her example forward.

She is now reunited with her sweetheart, Dennis, and many loved ones who went before her. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that love does not end with death—it continues through the eternities and in the lives of those she touched.

A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 12:30 p.m. at the LDS East Stake Building 310 North State Street in Preston. Visitations will be held on Friday October 2, 2026, from 6-8 pm and again Saturday prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. both at the East Stake Center.
