Roger Kip Rhees, lovingly known as Kip, was born on September 5, 1961, in Ogden, Utah, to Kathrine Henderson and Roger Larry Rhees. He passed away on May 12, 2026, peacefully surrounded by love, leaving behind a life and legacy defined by faith, service, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Kip married his sweetheart, Susan Barker, on June 27, 1986, in Layton, Utah. Together they achieved their most desired goal of becoming an eternal family in the Bountiful Temple in 1999. Kip’s life’s purpose was his family. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to raising hardworking, confident, and independent children, believing deeply in leading by example. He worked tirelessly to ensure his family always had what they needed, emotionally, spiritually, and physically, always putting their needs before his own, even if it meant going without himself. His steady presence, quiet sacrifices, and unconditional support shaped generations.
Kip spent his entire career in construction, a profession that mirrored his character, dependable, skilled, and built on integrity. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning his contractor’s license and starting his own business, Elk River Construction. His strong work ethic wasn’t just something he practiced; it was something he intentionally passed on to his children through example, never asking them, or anyone else, to do anything he wasn’t willing to do himself or side by side with them, teaching the value of honest work, responsibility, and perseverance.
A true lover of the outdoors, Kip found joy and peace in hunting, fishing, camping, and rodeos, especially bull riding. He felt most at home in nature and had a special way with animals, often referred to as a real-life “Doctor Doolittle,” as animals seemed instinctively drawn to his calm and gentle nature. Time spent outdoors often became time spent teaching, connecting, and making memories with his family.
Whether gathered around a campfire or at home, he loved manning his Traeger, cooking and smoking food for family and friends, and preparing dutch oven meals, homemade cobblers, and his well‑loved carrot cakes. He also enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books and teaching his grandkids how to play poker—moments filled with laughter, lessons, and love.
He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest supporter, always showing up, cheering them on, and taking pride in their accomplishments.
Kip was known for being quick to help others, never hesitating to lend a hand, share his skills, or give his time. His service flowed naturally from who he was, humble, generous, and dependable.
His faith was the foundation of his life. Kip gave 110% in every church calling he was asked to fulfill, serving faithfully and without need for recognition. He held a deep love for the gospel and had a special place in his heart for serving in the temple, where he found great peace and purpose. His testimony was reflected less in words and more in the way he lived, through consistent service, quiet dedication, and deep love for others.
Kip is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Rhees; his four children: Teryl Stay, Mindy Bingham (Adam), Matt Rhees (Chelsey), and Kristi Bennett (Joey); and his 23 grandchildren, with one great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his sisters, Kelly Weston and Kim Schofield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathrine and Roger Larry Rhees.
Above all, Kip will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandpa, and a man whose life was spent serving others and putting his family first. His legacy of faith, hard work, sacrifice, and love will live on through the many lives he touched and the family he cherished.
