Richard Edwin Summers

Richard Edwin Summers, age 45, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 27, 2025. He was born March 18, 1980, in Logan, Utah. A childhood spent at the foot of Clarkston Mountain fostered a lifelong love for the outdoors.

As a boy, Richard enjoyed a tight-knit circle of friends with a similar love of nature. Together they hunted, fished, and camped. These friendships and activities continued throughout his life.

He graduated from Sky View High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Utah State University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Weber State University. His education included a study abroad program in China. At the time of his death, he was the Accounting Manager for the George S. Eccles Ice Center where he considered co-workers his dear friends.

Employment experience from ranch hand to carpenter equipped him with skills used to help others. His family will remember him as a hard worker whom they could call on for help with any activity or project.

In 2017, Richard met Megan Sears at a BBQ set up by their siblings for this express purpose. They were married on December 29, 2018, and sealed in the Logan Temple June 29, 2019. They built a wonderful life together near the mouth of Weston Canyon. They loved road trips, golfing, and hunting.

His passions included team roping and horse training. While at Utah State, he became a farrier. Recently, beekeeping satisfied his desire to try his hand at new things.

He served in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church callings include Elders Quorum Secretary, Primary and Sunday School teacher, Boys Activity Day Leader, and–most recently–Young Men Advisor. With several of these, Megan served alongside him.

Richard loved deeply. His determination, loyalty, and compassion will be sorely missed. As expressed by a family friend, “Not many like Richard–A maverick like Christ who saw it through.”

Richard leaves behind his wife of seven years, Megan Sears Summers, parents Edwin and Annette Summers, and siblings: Amanda (Jason) Brady, Jennifer (Randy) Meek, Ian (Rachel) Summers, and Thomas (Traci) Summers. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Lisa Sears and well-loved Sears family members. Many nieces and nephews are mourning his passing.
