Richard Reese Pope

Richard Reese Pope, 84, of Lewiston, Utah passed away peacefully in Logan, Utah on July 10, 2025. He was born in Grass Valley, California on May 4, 1941, the eldest of 5 children born to Reese and Margaret Pope. He grew up on ranches located in Idaho and Montana, often reminiscing about the natural beauty of the Big Hole Basin.

It was during these early years that he showed a talent for mechanical innovation, often repairing and building ranch equipment, a skill he used repeatedly in his life. He had a great passion for tractors and automobiles, especially Mercedes-Benz. Richard (Dick) was fondly remembered for his kindness and generosity toward all people .

When he returned from his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany, his family had relocated to California, where he would meet his future wife, Dianne Joslin. Dick and Dianne were blessed with 3 children, whom they raised in Southern California.

Richard served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force, where he met several of the doctors with whom he would work for decades. Due to his fascination with mechanical things, Dick was involved in developing technologies with Airships International for many years. He would later transition into the business world, acting as Vice President of Stanwill Properties/DDRM for over 20 years, before moving to Richmond, Utah to care for his aging parents.

Dick was a dedicated son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather known for his generous nature and endless desire to serve others. During his lifelong church service, he touched many, many lives. Richard is survived by his siblings, Colleen (Mel) Cheney and Glenn (Patreece) Pope, three children, Erik (Joy) Pope, Heidi (Trace) Allen and Adam (Kristin) Pope, grandchildren Tracey (Keith), Katie (Jake), Samuel (Ramsie), Andrew, Ethan, Charles, Ivy and Henry, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as his former wife, Dianne Pope Walker.
