A loving Heavenly Father called Rex Darwin Petersen back home on April 13, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with sugar diabetes. He was born March 14, 1948, in Star Valley, Wyoming. He was 78 years old. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Magna, Utah, where he spent the rest of his growing up years.
After graduating from Cyprus High School, Rex attended Southern Utah State College for a year before serving an LDS mission to the Eastern States Mission. After his mission, he attended the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in Business Management.
Rex married Marlene Klippert in the Logan LDS Temple on November 8, 1974. They lived in Taylorsville, Utah, for three years before moving to Cache Valley, making Nibley their permanent home. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
Rex owned and successfully operated two businesses—Stonewall Construction and Riverside RV Park. He was a hard worker and a jack-of-all trades. He used his architectural knowledge to design buildings and remodels. He was a fixer and a problem solver. He used his tools and equipment to build, fix and repair. His knowledge and expertise served him well in solving problems that confronted him. He was always willing to share whatever he had with others, whether it be his tools and equipment or his knowledge and expertise.
Rex was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various positions during his life. He had a strong testimony of the gospel that gave him strength and courage to overcome the trials and challenges that came into his life. Rex had a big heart and a kind and loving soul who was known for his countless hours of serving others.
Rex’s love for the outdoors found him spending time with family and friends snowmobiling, four-wheeling, camping, fishing, backpacking, hunting, panning for gold and hiking.
Rex’s world revolved around family and friends. His kids and grandkids were the greatest joys in his life. He never passed up an opportunity to spend time with them, being involved and supporting them in their activities. He was surrounded by good friends. They worked together and played together, creating a bond never to be broken.
Rex was loved by everyone who knew him. He formed forever friendships with family and friends, those whom he worked, and those with whom he served in various callings in the church.
Rex will be remembered as having been a great influence and having had a big impact in the lives of many, young and old alike.
He is survived by his wife; Marlene, his children; Ryan, Cody, Misty and grandchildren; Dylan, Logan, Ella, Danika, Ashton, Reese and Auree.
There will be no formal viewing or funeral. Interment will be in the Mink Creek Idaho Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
