Reed Noah Woodland

Richmond, Utah Reed N. Woodland Richmond - Reed passed away Monday morning October 27, 2008 of a hematoma he suffered in a recent fall. He was born July 1, 1918 in Richmond, Utah. Reed, and his companion Thelma, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in July. Reed was the son of Noah and Libbie Traveller Woodland and the oldest of four children. He is preceded in death by his sister Erma (Brent)Villete, and is survived by his sisters Ethel LaVere) Brown and Ora (Blaine) Bailey. Reed spent his entire life in Richmond and lived in the same home that he and Thelma built in 1939. In his younger years, he worked at the milk factory in Richmond and had a small herd of dairy cows that he took care of before and after ‘work'. Those who knew him have said they've never met a man who could out work Reed. He was constantly on the go. Despite a rigorous work ethic, Reed always seemed to be able to find time to play. He loved baseball, basketball, tennis, archery hunting and telling tales of many a huntin' adventures.Reed was a devoted home teacher even at the age of 90. He held many church positions including: scoutmaster, Explorer leader, basketball coach, softball coach, referee, ward clerk, bishopric councilor, MIA superintendent, high councilman, high priest group leader and temple worker. Reed and Thelma served an LDS mission in San Antonio, Texas from 1984-85. Those who knew Reed were well aware that he always gave his best and was willing to serve wherever he could. Reed was a member of the Lions Club and Red Cross. He served as PTA president and on committees for Black and White Days and Richmond Planning and Zoning. Whenever there was money to be collected for the Boy Scouts, Lions Club, or church magazines, he willingly rose to the occasion. He is survived by his wife, Thelma King Woodland, and children Jerry (Judy) and Sharon (Craig) Poole. His eight grandchildren and fifteen great grand children will miss his world famous malts, hearing him exclaim, "My gosh!" and him complimenting grandma after a meal with a drawn-out, "Miiighty tasty!"Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov 1st, at 11:00 AM at the Richmond Stake Center, 135 W. Main St. with Bishop Kendall Petersen conducting. Friends may call Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home in Preston. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
