Myrtle Bowers Andersen

Myrtle Smith Bowers Andersen, 95,  was born April 4, 1922 in Burley, Idaho, the10th child of Charles Henry Smith and Lillie Velety Stokes.  She died January 28, 2018, at Heritage Home Memory Care Center in Preston, Idaho.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and over the years held many, many positions of service.  Her father was a Bishop of the Pella LDS Ward near Burley, Idaho for over seventeen years.

She was loved by all who knew her.  She loved being outdoors, camping and fishing.  As a young girl she worked in the fields, picked apples and cherries in the fruit orchard, rode horses, milked cows, and swam in the canal.  She loved animals and was never seen without a dog or a cat or two.  She had no middle name.  She was known simply as Myrtle or Myrt or Grandma Turtle.  Her grandchildren say she has traded in her turtle shell for angel’s wings.

She is survived by six children:  Marilyn (David) Jensen of Denver, Colorado; Diana (Richard) Schlund of Castleford, Idaho; Sharon (Claire) Hatch of Clifton, Idaho; Milo Andersen of Preston; Michael (Valyn) Andersen of Preston; and Vicki (Mel) Thomson of Preston. She has 24 grand children and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lillie Smith; husbands Rex M. Bowers and Mark R. Andersen; and son Gary R. Bowers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 12:00 noon at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho.  Friends and family may call on the family at the viewing from 10:30 – 11:30 on Saturday also at Webb Funeral Home.  Myrtle will be buried in Whitney, Idaho, Cemetery next to her husband, Mark Andersen.
