Michael James Lindhardt (59), a loving husband, dedicated father, and proud ‘Papa’, passed away on April 8, 2026 in his home surrounded by family after a noble seven year battle with brain cancer. Mike was born on April 15, 1966 to Sherman and Mary Jean Lindhardt in Preston, Idaho. When Mike was four years old his parents settled in Smithfield, Utah where he was raised and enjoyed a happy childhood with his six siblings. As the oldest brother he was very loved and admired by his three sisters and three brothers throughout his life. He was their fearless leader, their button pusher, and best friend. He worked on the family farm in Idaho during the summers of his youth, delivered newspapers after school, and milked cows for a neighbor where he developed strong work habits that greatly benefited him and his future family.
Mike graduated from Sky View High School in 1984 and attended Utah State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in history and political science and later received a master’s degree from USU in Human Resource Management, graduating with honors. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Massachusetts Boston Mission speaking Spanish.
Mike loved adventure and seemed to have endless energy for the great outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. After college he spent five summers fishing and mining for gold in Alaska. As a licensed pilot he was able to fly a float plane to bring food and supplies to the small village of Kotzebue, Alaska. Mike also earned his welding license and general contractor license. He always enjoyed working and learning new skills.
In the fall of 1991, Mike met Cami Lynn Newton, an angel on earth, and made the best decision of his life when he asked her on a date. On November 19, 1993 they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity. She is the love of his life and together for the last 32 years they have created a Christ-centered home where all are welcome. They worked in tandem providing and supporting each other in household duties, church callings, and raising their children in love and righteousness. Mike and Cami spent their early years in Smithfield where they were blessed with four children, Mikala, Kaitlyn, Karlee, and Jacob. In 2002 they moved to Manti, Utah where they raised not only their children but a multitude of chickens, cows, sheep, pigs, cats, and one dog. The country life suited their family and Mike enjoyed playing and working side by side with his wife and kids. Hard work was something Mike valued. He always had a project to teach his children to work. He built each of their homes including their current home in Hyde Park they moved into last Spring. Family was his top priority and ultimate source of pride and happiness.
Mike loved to teach and devoted 33 years working for the Church Education System for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He taught seminary at Logan High School and at Preston High School where he also coached football. He then taught institute at Snow College, Ensign College, and Utah State University where he was able to continue teaching until just a few months prior to his passing. He was a talented and natural mentor and being with the young adults of the church brought him so much joy. He always felt the future was bright when working with them. In addition to teaching he made time to be involved in the various activities his kids were interested in, and again coached football in Manti.
Mike was an active member of the LDS church and treasured his testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ. He shared it boldly and frequently in word and deed. He served in various church callings including Stake Young Men’s President, YSA Bishop and Stake Presidency, and Mission President. In 2017 Mike and Cami were called as Mission Leaders of the West Virginia Charleston Mission. This was a singular experience where their love for each other and for their Savior grew. They loved the missionaries they worked with and treasured their time with them. They were saddened when their mission was cut short after 2+ years due to Mike’s cancer diagnosis.
Being a ‘Papa’ was one of Mike’s greatest joys. He is blessed with seven grandchildren whom he cherishes. He adored playing, teasing, laughing and reading with them. And they in turn couldn’t get enough of their papa. He will be missed greatly but the legacy he leaves them is one of love and faith.
Mike is survived by his wife, Cami; their four children: Mikala (Destry) Wride of Meridian, ID; Kaitlyn (Nathan) Cox of Pasco, WA; Karlee Lindhardt of Logan, UT; Jacob (Addie) Lindhardt of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren: Haidee, Millie Jean, Bowen, Jens, Josie, Callan, and Oaklee. His siblings: Alice (Shaun) Parkin of Ashburn, VA; Barbara (Craig) Warnes of Millville, UT; Douglas (Veronica) Lindhardt of Morgan, UT; Nancy (Matthew) Felt of Wellsville, UT; Thomas (Anneke) Lindhardt of Pleasant View, UT; Paul (Jill) Lindhardt of Smithfield, UT; a foster brother: Arnold Lee of West Jordan, UT; his father and mother-in-law: Hyrum and Sherry Newton of Preston, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
