Merl H. Bloxham

Merl H. Bloxham celebrated his 98th birthday by graduating from this life.  He departed from this world on his birthday, January 15, 2024, in Logan, UT surrounded by loving family members.  

Born on January 15, 1926, to Richard Thomas and Elsie Henderson Bloxham in Downey, Idaho.  He was the 11th of twelve children and the last surviving member of that generation.   Merl’s life was a tapestry woven with love, family, community, and service.  

Merl is survived by his wife, Chelsea Athel.  Also surviving are his six children, Karen Hebdon, Linda Anderson, Lee Bloxham (Peggy), Kevin Bloxham (Debbie), Paula Bloxham and Tim Bloxham.  His surviving step-children whom he loved and treated as if they were his own are Vickie Pfeffer (Kirk), Sandy Krambule, Byron Aslett (Moushumi), Kim Rives, Kristi Powell, Zan Aslett (Jackie), Todd (Stephanie), Kurt (Jen).  Merl also has numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

In his 98 years, he was so many things to so many people.  As a husband and father, he exemplified kindness and care leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.  He is and will be greatly missed by family, neighbors and friends.

Merl married LeOra Austin Bloxham on July 18th, 1945.  Their vows were solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on May 4th, 1964.  They lived in Downey and Franklin Idaho.  LeOra died Aug 26, 2010.

Merl married Chelsea Athel Mounteer in Franklin, Idaho, on July 9, 2011, and their vows were solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on August 3, 2013.  They resided in Logan, Utah.

Merl served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  During his lifetime, he was self-employed as a carpenter and electrician, managed a farm implement business, owned a Texaco service station, and then retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20+ years.  

He was active in two different communities throughout his lifetime serving as mayor, city council member, planning and zoning commissioner, volunteer fireman, and district magistrate’s commissioner.  He has also served as officers in many civic clubs.

Merl was a member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many leadership and clerical positions.

His interests included helping other people, building and remodeling homes, woodworking, mechanics, watching Jazz basketball, and reading.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all his family, friends, and the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional Hospital for their love, support, and prayers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 645 Trail Circle, Logan, Utah.  Viewing will be 9:30 – 10:30 with the program following at 11:00.  Interment will be in Downey, Idaho about 2:30. In lieu of flowers please be of service to a friend, neighbor or stranger.
