Melissa Ann Smith

Melissa Ann Smith (Missy) was born in Logan, Utah on July 28, 1980, to Asell Clyde and Darlene Buttars Smith and passed away September 10, 2025, in Malad, Idaho from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Missy spent her childhood years in Hyde Park, and Lewiston, Utah. She was living in Tremonton, Utah at the time of her death. She attended Sky View High School and graduated from Bear River High School.

Missy had a heart and soul that naturally drew people to her. Kindness and acceptance define Missy. Missy was kind to everyone. She genuinely cared for others and sought out those who were troubled or lonely and offered her unconditional love and friendship. The phrase “Give You the Shirt off Her Back” applies to Missy. She couldn’t stand to see anyone hurting or sad without helping them. Missy was an “all in” person. If you needed her, she was there no matter the inconvenience. There was never anything phony or fake about Missy. She wore her heart on her sleeve and what you saw is what you got!

On March 8, 1997, Missy married Dustin Frazier. To that union, four children were born; Colten, Tayler, Brock, and Jake. Missy and Dustin were sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 29, 2004. Although they divorced, they stayed friends. It’s not surprising that Missy’s last day on this earth was spent with Dustin on the lake fishing; with their son Jake.

Being a mother was the thing that mattered most to Missy. The love she had for her children was evident. She absolutely cherished spending time with them; whether at home watching movies, or in the mountains camping, it didn’t matter. She just wanted to be with them. And, Missy was fun! Her house was always decorated to the max for every holiday. On every shelf and every wall hung homemade crafts and other décor that made her house look festive, fun and beautiful!

Missy was the life of the party, and her laugh was contagious! Missy loved Black Friday, scrapbooking, crafting, and shopping with her sisters. They spent hours together laughing and sharing childhood memories. Missy was an excellent seamstress and spent countless hours designing and making crib sets for her grandbabies. Her projects were truly a labor of love, and she was so proud of her creations! Missy loved spending time with her siblings and other close family every chance she got. She was always the last to arrive at the party, but also the last to leave; hence she was always assigned a dessert.

Missy loved her Heavenly Father and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Missy always asked meaningful and challenging questions about the gospel and spent hours reading the scriptures trying to make sense of the things she didn’t understand. Her testimony of the reality of a loving Heavenly Father helped her through the difficult times in her life.

Missy is survived by her children; Tayler Ann Frazier, Brock Andrew Frazier, and Jake Dustin Frazier. Her grandchildren; Yoselin (Yazzie) Castillo, Nayeli (Neli) Castillo, Remi Frazier, Ruger Frazier, and Bowen Smith. Her father, Clyde (Patty) Smith. Her siblings and their spouses; Amy (Dave) Johnson, Corey (Liz) Smith, Dan (Jenny) Smith, Mike (Lizzy) Smith, Jenni (Skye) Hansen, and Bug (Blake) Allen, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Darlene Buttars Smith, her son Colten Clyde Frazier, and her grandparents, Ross and Louise Buttars, Hazel Smith, and Asell Chugg Smith.
