Marilyn Louise "Grammy" Nunn

Marilyn Louise “Grammy” Nunn was born on July 26, 1935, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, as a premature baby weighing only 3 pounds, 3 ounces. Doctors were unsure she would survive, but Marilyn had a quiet strength from the very beginning. She went on to live a beautiful, meaningful, love-filled life for 90 years.

She married Ernest Ivron “Bud” Nunn and lovingly embraced his daughter, Jeanne, as her own.

Family meant everything to Marilyn, and she poured her heart into those around her. She cherished her siblings, nieces, and nephews and treasured the time she spent with her extended family. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always their biggest encourager and supporter.

Marilyn dedicated 35 years of her life to working for Continental Insurance before retiring. Even after retirement, she continued serving others with the same compassion and generosity that defined her life. She volunteered more than 2,000 hours for three consecutive years and was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, receiving a personal letter from the White House recognizing her as someone who embodied the very best of the American spirit. She also received several presidential volunteer pins and a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Columbus in 2015 for her work as a receptionist at the Gillie 50+ Senior Community Center, where she warmly welcomed everyone who walked through the doors.

Marilyn had a joyful spirit and a wide range of talents and hobbies. She loved music and could play and teach the accordion, guitar, and piano. She enjoyed bowling, photography, reading, and spending time laughing with friends and family. She adored her cats and dogs and found great joy in watching and caring for the birds outside her windows. She was also a lifelong and fiercely loyal Ohio State football fan who rarely missed a game and proudly cheered on the Buckeyes every season.

Above all else, Marilyn loved Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her life and shaped the way she cared for others. She faithfully served for many years in her Baptist church, especially cherishing her time mentoring young girls through Awana and helping with Vacation Bible School. She also served as a missionary in Mexico City, Mexico, sharing her faith and love for others. She had a gentle way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Switzer (Rick); three grandchildren, Jessica Richey (Paul), Amy Atkinson, Craig Atkinson (Mikenna); and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud Nunn; her parents, Mary Morris and John Jay Calborn; her stepmother, Rosa Lee Calborn; her sisters, Jo Shelton and Bonnie Franklin; her brother, Jon Jay Calborn; and her sister-in-law and lifelong best friend, Patsy Lou “Pat” Norman.

Marilyn will be remembered for her resilient spirit, unwavering faith, kind heart, and the love she gave so freely. She touched countless lives through her warmth, service, humor, and compassion.

Her life was a beautiful reminder that even the smallest beginnings can grow into something extraordinary. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
