Marilyn Kaye Goodman

February 2, 1931 — July 22, 2016

Marilyn Kaye Goodman

Marilyn Kaye Swainston Goodman, 85,  was born Feburary 2, 1931 in Preston Idaho to Lindon Frost Swainston & Katie Roskelly Swainston.  After an extended illness she  fulfilled her earthly calling surrounded by family on July 22, 2016 at Cache Valley Hospital.

Marilyn was raised in Whitney Idaho alongside of her only sibling Linda Faye.  February 2nd was a very special day for them both as they shared this day for their birthdays.  They always joked that they were supposed to be twins.  Linda would always say “Yes but I kicked her out 12 years early because she was too ornery”.  They always shared a very special bond right up to the very end.

Marilyn married Robert George Henderson on June 7, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple.  They made a temporary home in Swan Lake, Idaho until they built their home in Preston.  They later divorced.  During her early days she worked at Carl and Don’s store where she ran the snack bar for many years.  She was also a member of the Ladies’ Possey.  She was the last surviving member.

After dating for 25 years she married Foy Wayne (Slim) Goodman.  He passed away December 10, 1993.  Slim was employed with Lineco and worked as a lineman his job gave them the opprotunity to travel.  Marilyn made lots of friends through their traveling.   She loved collecting spoons from every new place they went.  She loved collecting dolls, jewelry, going shopping, and working in her flower garden.  But the thing she loved the most was coming home and spending time with her family.

Marilyn was blessed with five beautiful daughters.  Karen (Alan) Murray, Smithfield, UT, Susan (Garry) Purkey,  Pocatello, ID, Pamela (Andy) Stevenson, Mountain Home, UT, Julie (Thomas) Flint, Morrison, CO,  Jo (Karl) Yeanopols, Littleton, CO.  20 Grandchildren, 40 Great Grandchildren with 3 more due before the of the year, and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.  She loved watching her family grow.  She always supported her family, she encouraged her family to do their best, lend a helping hand whenever possible.  She always kept a positive attitude and tried to see the good in everything and everyone.

She cherished every moment she had with her family.  She loved family get togethers no matter how big or small just because she would be with her family.  On July 22nd she had her ultimate family get together with those who left before her.

She was preceded in death by Lindon & Katie Swainston (her parents),  Foy Wayne  (Slim) Goodman (husband), and Adam Brad Benson (grandson).  She is survived by all her daughters and her sister Linda Faye Bair.  She will forever be missed by those she left behind.  But we know she will welcome us home when our time comes.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Matthew J. Welter; Katie C. Heap; and the nursing staff at Cache Valley Hospital for their wonderful care, compassion and support to Marilyn and her family.
