Major William Albert “Bill” Burtson, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026.

Bill was born on May 8, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born into a family with deep Italian roots and was devoted son and brother. He was first married to Dorothy Burtson, with whom he had five children with.

Bill proudly served his country as a United States Marine. He enlisted on December 31, 1960. He attended officer training at Drexel University. He served two tours in Vietnam and, through dedication, leadership, and hard work, rose to the rank of Major. He honorably served until his discharge on June 30, 1977. Bill’s commitment to the Marine Corps was unwavering. He perfectly embodied the Marine Corps motto Semper Fi (“Always Faithful”). That motto was not just a saying to him; it was a way of life that defined his character, integrity, and sense of duty. His years of service remained one of the greatest sources of pride in his life and left a lasting legacy of honor and faithfulness

After his military service, Bill met the love of his life, Ruby Burtson, in California. Together they moved to Idaho, where they owned and operated Bill’s Weston Market, a small store in Weston, Idaho. Bill became a familiar and well-liked figure in the local community through his hardworking spirit and friendly presence at the store.

Following Ruby’s death, Bill moved to South Jordan, Utah, where he lived the remainder of his life with his daughter Susan and her husband, Scott Northridge.

Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid fan of baseball and football, supporting the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles. He also loved college football and attended Rose Bowl championship games. He enjoyed daily walks, reading books, listening to music, and traveling with family and friends. Above all, Bill loved to make others smile and laugh.

He is survived by his children: Linda (Tony) Longsworth, Billy Burtson Jr., Caroline Burtson, Lottie Burtson, Susan (Scott) Northridge, Kathy Provence, and Kelly (Tom) Bliss; along with 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Burtson, son Eric Burtson, Robert Provence and Rick Provence.
