Lucile McGavin Lewis

Preston, Idaho Lucile M. LewisOur beloved Lucile McGavin Lewis died Thursday January 10, 2008 in Preston, Idaho, after a short and courageous battle with pneumonia. Lucile was born in Marysville, Idaho on August 16, 1912, the daughter of Lorin and Fern (Brower) McGavin. She married Theron J Lewis on April 28, 1932, in Richmond, Utah; the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. The family lived in Richmond, Utah for 40 years before Theron and Lucile moved to Clearfield, Utah. After Theron's death, Lucile resided in Preston, Idaho for 30 years. During her life Lucile was primarily a homemaker. She and Theron raised three wonderful children. During World War II Lucile began working at the Sego Milk factory, and continued working in the can shop for 25 years. Music and singing were always a part of Lucile's family life. While living in Richmond, Lucile enjoyed singing in the ladies choir and would often reminisce about the McGavin sisters and their 15 minutes of fame singing on the radio in Pocatello, Idaho. Above all, Lucile enjoyed every minute she was able to spend with her family, children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to Lucile, and she loved her family with a constant and unconditional love.Lucile was an active member of the LDS church and served as Sunday School Secretary and visiting teacher, among other callings. She especially enjoyed her work with the Benson Stake Mutual Organization and as the Single Adult representative in her ward in Preston. She also loved attending services with her friends at the Heritage Home in Preston; her family is so grateful to all those who befriended and cared for Lucille during her time at the Heritage Home and at Franklin County Transitional Care. She is survived by her three children Gary Lewis (Dolores) of Meridian, Idaho; Luann Fergus of Port Washington, Wisconsin; and Ron Lewis (Eleanor) of Preston, Idaho (currently serving an LDS mission in Argentina); a brother, Robert McGavin, and two sisters, Dottie Gallaher and Neita Morrison, all of Ogden, Utah. Lucile has nine grandchildren: Jeff Fergus of Mesa, Arizona; Kenneth Fergus (Cindy) of Westbend, Wisconsin; Kristi Fergus Parmelee (John) of Plattsburgh, New York; Kim Fergus Navalinsky (Doug) of Lorain, Ohio; Debbie Lewis Allen (David) of Corinth, Texas; Diane Lewis Smith (Terry) of Thornton, Colorado; Dawn Lewis of Meridian, Idaho; Kathryn Lewis Isaak (Curtis) of Orem, Utah; Kristen Lewis Burton (Jon) of Heber City, Utah; 29 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Lorin McGavin and mother Fern McGavin, her husband Theron J Lewis, brothers Keith McGavin and Chad McGavin, her two sisters Blanche Rainwater and Georgia Shipley, and one grandson, Jerry Dean Fergus. We love and will miss Lucile, and hope to follow her example of constant love and concern for everyone around her. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston Tenth Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, Idaho.
