Linda Simmonds Hyde

Linda Simmonds Hyde, 87, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at Autumn Care Assisted Living & Memory Care in Hyde Park, UT. Linda was born on November 26, 1938 in Logan, UT to Andrew Montom Simmonds and Mildred Glover Simmonds.

Linda was raised on a dairy farm in Lewiston, Utah, along with her younger brother Terry. She learned to work from an early age, helping her dad with farm chores and her mom working in the garden. Linda attended elementary and jr. high school in Lewiston, and then moved on to North Cache High School (Richmond, UT) where she graduated in 1957. She was very active in school choir, band, and was the Drum Majorette for the marching band. Linda also enjoyed playing fast pitch softball while growing up.

Linda met a young man, Jon Hyde, who lived just across the border in Fairview, ID and they started dating. Jon & Linda were married on August 15, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple. When first married, Jon and Linda lived in Logan while Jon finished college at USU and Linda supported them by working as a bookkeeper at Cache Valley Dairy in Amalga. It was during this time that Linda had her first and only child, Kyle.

Linda moved to New Jersey next for a two-year hitch as an army wife and mother while Jon served active duty at Ft. Dix. Then it was back to Cache Valley for a short time until Linda and her family moved to Montpelier, ID in 1963. For the next 18 years, Linda called Montpelier her home. She worked at the Mountain Bell Telephone Company for most of those years.

During this time, Linda was very busy following Jon and Kyle to all of their sports activities. However, she still found time to play competitive fast pitch softball with the Einzinger’s team, sing in a community choir called the Chordbusters, be an active member of the Montpelier Mother’s Club, and travel “over the hill” most Saturdays to see her family in Lewiston and take her mother shopping in Logan.

Another career change for Jon had Linda leaving Montpelier and moving to Preston, ID in 1980. She continued working for Mountain Bell for an additional year before beginning a new job with Utah Power & Light that lasted the next 17 years. Following retirement from Utah Power & Light, Linda worked for the City of Preston, State Street Styles Dress Store and as an election official for voting in Preston City.

Linda loved working outside during the spring, summer and fall and keeping her home and yard looking as neat and tidy as any around. She wasn’t afraid to work and it showed by the many compliments she received on her yard. When not working in the yard, Linda could be found cooking a big meal for her family or watching an evening show on TV and sewing, sewing, sewing.

The true love of her life was her family and she was devoted to taking care of them. Early on, Jon and Kyle were given all the attention, but later her three grandsons, Tyson, Andrew and Wesley, became the center of her attention. She loved the many, many trips she and Jon made to see their grandsons play ball. She never missed a chance to see them participate in school, church or civic events. Finally, she loved her great grandchildren and stayed as involved with them as she could in later years.

After her husband Jon passed away in 2009, she left her many wonderful friends in Preston and moved to Logan to be closer to Kyle & Gay. She had very caring neighbors in her retirement community in Logan and enjoyed being close to the stores so she could shop as often as she wanted.

Linda’s last stop was at Autumn Care Assisted Living and Memory Care in Hyde Park, UT. Linda was there for almost five years as her health declined. We would like to express our love and thanks to Toni Shumway and the wonderful staff (too numerous to mention individually) at Autumn Care who have provided such loving, tender and professional service to our mother. They became part of our family as we saw them on an almost daily basis.

We extend a very heartfelt thanks to her Ascend Hospice team, especially her nurse, Kat Reeve, who provided the needed cares, attention, and support that helped make Mom’s last years as comfortable and peaceful as possible. We also express appreciation to Dr. David Beckstead and his staff for the many years of help to Linda and Jon.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her son, Kyle (Gay) Hyde of Logan, UT; three grandsons: Tyson (Amy) Hyde, Hyde Park, UT; Andrew (Ali) Hyde, Sandy, UT; Wesley (Raegen) Hyde, Smithfield, UT; twelve great-grandchildren; and one brother: Terry (Edith) Simmonds of Lewiston, UT.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, Idaho. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Lewiston Utah Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
