Leon Dee Priestley

Leon Dee Priestley, 87, of Preston, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2025, at the Franklin County Medical Center Transitional Care Unit surrounded by his devoted wife and loving children.

Leon was born in Linrose, Idaho on February 27, 1938, to Heber Chase “Roy” and Ida Priestley. He graduated from Preston High School in 1956 and honorably served in the Army, spending much of his service time in Washington DC. On September 22, 1965, he married his sweetheart, Marilyn Bodily, in the Logan, Utah temple, beginning a partnership that would last nearly 60 years.

Leon found joy in woodworking, dedicating years to Anderson and Preston Lumber. He later joined the Preston School District, where he took immense pride in maintaining the schools and ensuring everyone from faculty to students felt accepted and loved. Leon was a humble, quiet man who exemplified selfless service throughout his life. He generously volunteered his time as a coach, umpire, or referee for countless community sports teams. For many years, he was instrumental in organizing volunteers to take tickets for the Famous Preston Night Rodeo. He also deeply enjoyed working behind the scenes with the leaders and young women of the Jr. Miss/Distinguished Young Women’s program, ensuring their needs were met. Additionally, Leon was a dedicated committee member for the Parade of Lights for many years.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leon served faithfully in various callings. However, his greatest joy came from serving his beloved family. He cherished watching his grandchildren play sports, participating in family gatherings, and spending invaluable time with his great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. Leon was an exceptional example of Christlike love and service to all who knew him.

Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; and their four children: DeAnn (Brent) Wilson of Preston, Curtis Priestley of Preston, Michelle Priestley of Preston, and Jill (Paul) Young of West Jordan, Utah. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who will deeply miss his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Blaine Priestley and Marvin Priestley.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at FCMC-TCU for the loving care they provided to Leon.
