Kenna Winn Bell (born Kenna Wood), 95, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Orem, Utah, in the home of her grandson and his wife, Jason and Connie Winn.
Born on January 19, 1930, in Dayton, Idaho, Kenna was the youngest of five daughters to Anna Johanna Viehweg and Kenneth J. Wood. Her parents were hardworking farmers in the Dayton and Clifton areas, and Kenna inherited their strong work ethic early in life, shaped by the example of both her parents and sisters.
As a child, Kenna’s family moved to Farmington, Utah, for a short time before settling back in Clifton. During that period, she loved visiting her grandfather’s general store in Farmington, located just a short walk from Lagoon. She had fond memories of picking out penny candies from his store and spending as much time at Lagoon as life would allow. In those days, Lagoon was free to walk through, and you only had to pay if you wanted to ride—something Kenna delighted in sharing throughout her life as a glimpse into a simpler, joyful time.
Kenna attended grade school in Clifton and Dayton and graduated from Weston High School. Though she lived through nearly a century of remarkable change and technological advancement, she proudly never owned a computer or a cell phone—preferring simplicity and personal connection.
Shortly after graduating, she married Eldon “Toby” Winn on August 19, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised two children, Kimball and Paula, first in Preston, Idaho, before eventually settling in Burley, Idaho, where they built a loving home and lasting community.
After raising her children, Kenna began working at the Ponderosa Golf Course, where she was active in the women’s golf league and formed lasting friendships through many lively rounds on the green. Later, she worked at the Mayfair clothing store in Burley, a role she dearly loved. Her days at Mayfair were filled with joy and laughter, as friends often stopped by not just to shop for dresses, but to visit and share stories.
Kenna was also a devoted member of her bridge club, participating in both Preston and Burley over the years. She cherished the companionship and conversation that came with the game, and many of the women she played with became lifelong friends.
In 1986, Kenna and Toby lovingly welcomed their grandson, Jason Winn, into their home, where he lived until he left to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After nearly 48 years of marriage, Toby passed away on February 20, 1996, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, humor, and strength. Several years after his passing, Jason was sealed to Kenna and Toby in the Logan, Utah Temple—an eternal bond that honored their love and faith.
After Toby’s passing, Kenna began serving in the Ogden, Utah Temple, a role that brought her great peace and spiritual fulfillment. It was there that she met and fell in love with Albert “Gene” Eugene Bell. They were married on August 12, 1999, and Gene joined Kenna in her home in Brigham City, where they shared nearly 20 happy years together. Their marriage was filled with quiet companionship, shared faith, and deep mutual respect.
Gene passed away peacefully on April 8, 2019. In the years following his death, Kenna remained active and independent. She spent her days tending to her yard with care, reading books she loved, and keeping her home spotless—a reflection of the pride she took in everything she did. She adored her neighbors and was deeply grateful for the kindness and support they extended to her after Gene’s passing.
Kenna’s greatest joys were found in the love she had for her children and grandchildren. She cherished having family in her home and was known for always having treats and dollar-store treasures ready whenever her grandchildren came to visit. “Grandma Bell” was a beloved figure to each generation, and spending time with her was a special treat that created lasting memories for all who knew her.
Kenna is survived by her two children and their spouses: Kimball Winn and his wife Kimberly of Evanston, Wyoming, and Paula O’Neil and her husband David O’Neill of St. George, Utah. She is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Johanna Viehweg and Kenneth J. Wood; her husbands, Toby Winn and Gene Bell; her four sisters and their husbands—Maxine and Allen Fisher, Fern and Dean Sears, Naudine and Lee Reddington, and Patricia and Norm Beckstead—and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Winn.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to CNS Home Health & Hospice in Brigham City and Orem for the loving and compassionate care they provided to Kenna following her stroke in February. Their kindness, support, and gentle attention brought great comfort to her and her family during her final months.
