Kay Thompson Wanner

Kay Thompson Wanner (79) passed away February 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at IMC Murray, Utah. He fought a valiant battle with the heart of a warrior. Everyone lovingly called him 'Pops'.
Kay was born Sept. 30, 1934 in Preston Idaho to Willard J. Wanner and Gladys LaVerna Thompson.
Kay graduated from Preston High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart Joyce Atkinson on June 19, 1952 in the Logan LDS temple. He loved sports, he lettered in basketball and track. He was on the starting five through his high school years. He loved watching the Jazz play.

Kay and his wife Joyce raised 5 children: Robin Kay Hampton, Jana Lee (Randy) Hobbs, Pamala (Jeff) Bates, Kelly Woodson, Richard John Wanner.

Kay retired from Utah Power and Light after 33 years of service. He also worked for Parker's upholstery. During his retirement years he and Joyce worked for the National Forest Service in Island Park. They loved working outdoors. Pops also loved working with wood in his shop and making crafts for his children and grandchildren. Everyone loved going camping with them to be spoiled by Pops' Dutch oven cooking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. He is survived by one sister Wilma Johnson as well as 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Memorial Services will be held at the West Point Lakeside Stake Center, 855 N 4000 W, West Point, Utah on Monday February 17 at 1pm. Private graveside services will be held at the Whitney Cemetery in Whitney, ID at 12 noon on Sat, February 15th.
