Kathryn Elizabeth Condie Hahn died Oct. 12, 2025, after scoring a winning percentage of 66.67 in three bouts with cancer.
She was born Dec. 20, 1980, to Rex and DeEsta Porter Condie in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the youngest of five and attended Litchfield Park (Arizona) Elementary School and Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale, Arizona. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Arizona State University (2002) and American Public University System (2013) and had a passion for libraries and historic preservation. She was on the board of the Justice Museum in Phoenix.
She was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in 2004. The initial prognosis was grim, but Katie surprised her doctors and in a few years was pronounced cured. She showed gratitude for the donors who helped save her life by speaking publicly and appearing in promotional campaigns for United Blood Services. She would tell the skittish: “You may be afraid of a needle but I was afraid to die.”
Kate married Paul Hahn in 2013. Although she dearly wanted children, they weren’t in the cards for her. Instead, she threw herself into the roles of loving dog mom and permissive, doting aunt. Katie had epic sleepovers for her nieces and nephews where the only rule was: “You break my stuff, I break your face.” She would fill them up with sugar, shake them around, and call their parents to get them when they barfed in the middle of the night.
Katie loved Pee-wee Herman, Hello Kitty, Keanu Reeves movies, roller coasters, water parks, goth culture, Halloween, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and her family and friends.
Her friends might be her greatest legacy. She collected them everywhere she went, from roller-derby girls to white-haired church ladies. They loved her fiercely in return. As one of her Primary kids said: “If you knew Katie, she was your friend.” Another friend said, “A massive Kate-shaped hole has been left and I'm not sure they make a Hello Kitty sticker bandaid big enough to protect it.”
Round Two of cancer was breast cancer. Katie seemed to have beat it, but it eventually reappeared.
Katie was preceded in death by her mother, brother Porter, dog Artemis and cat Ozzie.
Katie is survived by her husband, Paul, of Vernon, Arizona, who cared for her tenderly in her last days, and very good boy Apollo. She also leaves her father and step-mother, Rex and Cecily Condie, Litchfield Park, Arizona, and siblings Doug (Yumi), North Las Vegas, Nevada; Suzanne (Charlie) Lambert, Abu Dhabi, UAE; Mike (Julie), Goodyear, Arizona; and Brian (Brett), Gilroy, California. Her nieces and nephews are Brycen, Brynlee and Brianna Condie; Asa and Asher Lambert; John (Taylor) and William Condie; and Audrey, Christopher and Matthew Seal. Not to mention a legion of honorary niblings and other extended family.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for its professional and compassionate service. Katie would probably also encourage everyone to donate blood in her memory.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11 am at the Saint Vernon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel. Friends and family may call from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the church. She will be interred alongside many generations of family at Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Idaho.
