Joyce Lee Porter

Joyce Lee Porter, Age 92, died peacefully in Phoenix Arizona at a carehome residence on 12 September 2018.  She was lovingly surrounded by family during her last weeks of life.  Throughout her life Joyce touched the lives of all her family and friends, selflessly and generously sharing time, talents, love and care with all.  Joyce was an independent, strong woman of faith, who reached out to help those going through difficult times as well as enjoyed celebrating the joys of life with others.

Joyce was born 14 July 1926 in Logan Utah.  She grew up in Smithfield and Trenton Utah, residing there until she married Lynn McDermott Porter in 1947.  Lynn and Joyce made Clifton Idaho their home until moving to Layton Utah in 1952.  Joyce was a committed loyal wife and contributed to the lives of her children and grandchildren in many special ways.  Joyce worked for the Davis County School District and retired after 29 years of being a school cook.  After enjoying many years of retirement, the onset of Alzheimer’s in 2011 forced Joyce to move to Apple Tree Assisted Living in Kaysville Utah, then moving again to Phoenix Arizona in 2017 to have additional care for her Dementia.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn McDermott Porter (1985); Martha Neilson Haslam, mother; James Riggs Haslam, father/sealed to; James Robert (Jim) Haslam, brother; Harold Berdell Haslam, brother, and his wife Shirley Alice Flanders Haslam; Bud Roger Haslam, brother; Vera Haslam Taylor, sister, and husband Willis A (Pete) Taylor; Flourice Haslam Gregory Sparks, sister, and husband Donald Leslie Gregory; John Conrad White, brother-in-law; Evelyn Ruth Perry Haslam, sister-in-law; Bobby Porter, brother-in-law; Bernice Porter Keller Carroll, sister-in-law, and husbands Hugh Bennett Keller and Ralph J Carroll; Belva McDermott Porter, mother-in-law; Robert Howell Porter, father-in-law.  Surviving are her children:  Robert (Bob) L Porter, Heber Arizona (Wife: Nancy); Charlene Porter Black, Phoenix Arizona (Husband: Curtis); Boyd T. Joyce was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She had been an active member of her Ward(s) in Layton Utah as well as the Ward at Apple Tree Assisted Living in Kaysville Utah. She served her Wards faithfully with her time, love, and resources during each position/assignment she had throughout her life. One of her most loved positions was that of “compassionate” service!  Viewing will be 10:30am-11:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ward Chapel, 170 West 1st North, Clifton, Idaho, on Saturday, 20 October 2018.  The Funeral will begin at 12:00pm. Dedication of the grave will be held at the Clifton Cemetery directly after the Funeral service.  Family and friends are welcome to share in a meal back at the Clifton Ward Chapel after the dedication of the grave (approximately 2:00 pm) - - together we will all continue to celebrate Joyce’s life with pictures, personal stories and memories.
