Janine Jensen Johnson Juhasz

Janine Jensen Johnson Juhasz was called home to her Heavenly Parents on the evening of August 29th, 2025. Janine was born in Preston, Idaho on a cold winter Saturday night of March 7, 1953. Janine was the 6th of 16 children born to Frank Alder Johnson and Glenna Maxine Jensen.

Janine grew up east of Preston on a farm near Johnson Reservoir. Her parents taught her how to work hard. They raised beets, beans, corn, chickens, cows, and pigs. She and her siblings looked forward to rainy days so they could take a break from the fields. They enjoyed swimming at Johnson Reservoir or in the canal, hiking to Rocky Peak, and to the top of the P-Hill (still referred to as the TV Booster Hill by Mom).

When she was 5 years old, she fell off the house balcony by swinging on the screen door and losing her grip. She fell about 12 feet, and had the breath knocked out of her. The fall caused permanent hearing loss in her left ear and scoliosis in her back.

While working on the farm, she had some experiences that were on the edge of dangerous. Once they had the dump truck full of beets, Janine and several of her siblings were sitting on the top of the beets with her brother Clair driving. While going up a hill, something happened with the truck, they started to roll backwards. Thankfully, Clair was able to turn the truck sideways to prevent it from rolling further, preventing injury to anyone. When Janine’s father would run the harrow through the fields, he would have her and her siblings sit on it for weight. One time, when they were sitting on the harrow pulling it through the corn field, a thunderstorm rolled in. Her father just kept harrowing until he was done with the field.

Janine attended elementary school in Whitney Idaho. Every day there would be a different child who would be the bell ringer. She was excited when it was her turn to ring the bell for the start of school. She remembered teachers such as Mrs Condie and Mr Condie who were very kind to her. When she was in elementary school, her family didn’t have a phone at their house. Her Grandparents would have to relay phone call messages to them. One day while at school, she had a lot of pain. The teachers contacted her grandparents, but it took a while for her parents to receive the message and pick her up.

While in high school, Janine enjoyed home economics and being on the track team. She received white and blue ribbons for running the 880 and a red ribbon for running the 440.

Janine graduated from high school in 1971 and then attended Ricks College. After arriving at Ricks, she was initially excited, but then became awfully homesick. However, she met some friends, found her stride and really enjoyed it there. During her second year at Ricks, she met a handsome young man named Bob Juhasz. She would see him around campus riding his unicycle. One day, while at a banquet, Bob told her, “One day I am going to marry you”. Soon after he asked her to a Valentines dance. Bob didn’t own a car, so they would walk to places for dates. After Janine graduated from Ricks, she came home. However, Bob kept in contact with her.

Janine continued her college education by attending BYU for a year. Bob moved to Provo to be closer to her. He proposed to her a short time later. They were married for time and Eternity in the Logan Temple on Aug 2nd, 1974. Before the reception, they had to clean the Gym by the church house. Janine put oil down on the floor to give it a little shine but it also caused people to slip when they came in.

Janine and Bob started their life together by living in Provo for a year and a half. They then moved to Preston and found a fixer-upper house across the street from the hospital. The house was pretty run down, but Janine made it a Home. It was in this home that she raised all of her 9 children. 8 sons and 1 daughter.

Janine loved her family and loved spending time with them. She and Bob were always planning outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and spending time at parks. They would also plan road trips every year where we would drive across several states to go to a family reunion or take trips to see the ocean.

Growing up Janine’s Mother, Maxine, would grow a large garden. Janine carried on that love of gardening. Every year Janine would grow a large garden and have her corn, beans, carrots, tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes, squash, and melons. She has also worked on growing her raspberry patch which produces gallons of raspberries every week. When you didn’t find her in the garden, you would find her running her sewing machine. She would spend countless hours making quilts, clothes, and Rageddy Ann dolls. When the boys would tear holes in their pants, they would come home from school and find their pants had been all patched up. Janine also loved to crochet and knit. Many of the items from her garden, sewing, crocheting, and knitting would end up at the fair, where she would receive ribbons for her work. If it wasn't at the fair, she was sharing them with family and friends. Janine also loved to cook and liked a clean house. She would always have dinner ready with the main course along with salad, vegetables and bread. All the children are going to miss Mom’s cooking.

Money was always tight in Janine’s life. Growing up on a farm, there was always very little extra money to go around. From the start of her married life, she became a person who could really stretch a dollar. After her kids were older, she started to work part-time jobs as a janitor to help supplement the family’s income. This turned into many years working for the Preston School District having many different janitorial positions. She continued to work part-time a few days a week this summer. Somehow while working part time jobs, she would still find time to do all the other things around the house.

Janine had a strong testimony of the reality of Jesus Christ, and of His restored Church. She loved serving the Savior and had many callings that she loved. She served as Primary Teacher, Primary President, Young Women advisor, Nursery leader, Relief Society Teacher, Compassionate Service Leader, and Cub Scout Leader. She didn’t verbally express this testimony often, but through her actions, kindness, love and sweet words of encouragement, she exemplified the character of Christ. If you want to be like Jesus, just follow Janine.

Janine is survived by her 9 children: David (Tania) Juhasz, Walla Walla, WA; Jamin (Christie) Juhasz, Post Falls, ID; Christopher (Jennifer) Juhasz, Weston, ID; Diana (Luke) Bair, Dannon (Amy) Juhasz, Smithfield, UT; Deven (Lindsey) Juhasz, Preston, ID; Kelly (Audrey) Juhasz, North Logan, UT; Robert Kalan Juhasz, Preston ID; James (Rebekah) Juhasz, Newton, UT; 37 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Larry(Susan), Kim(Julie), Daryl (Darlene) Johnson, Marilyn (Robert) Daley, and Marie (Theron) Smith of Preston Idaho; Frank (Karen) Johnson of Rexburg, Idaho, Sharon Baird of Dayton, Idaho, Joene (Bob) Hayes of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Lillie Jo (Russ) Petersen of New Meadows, Idaho
