Howard Raymond Bingham

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Howard Raymond Bingham. Howard passed away at home with his loved ones in Providence, Utah on June 12, 2025 after courageously battling brain cancer for 11 ½ years. He departed this life peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.

Howard was born in Preston, Idaho as the second son and fifth child of Carl W. and Joyce N. Bingham. Howard was raised on a dairy farm in Weston, Idaho along with his 6 sisters and 2 brothers. He enjoyed living and working on the family farm where he learned a strong work ethic alongside of his siblings and close cousins. They spent many hours hauling hay, planting crops and milking cows morning, noon and night. After a hard morning in the fields, they would often play a pick-up game of basketball after lunch and then back to the fields for more work.

Howard graduated from Westside High School in 1980 where he enjoyed participating in basketball, football and track under the tutelage of amazing Westside coaches who helped instill values that carried on throughout Howard’s life. Furthering his education, Howard graduated from BYU with a Bachelors degree in Animal Science (1987.) From there he continued his higher education where he acquired his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State (1990.) While attending Washington State University he made friendships that continued throughout his life. Howard worked as a Veterinarian previous to attaining his PhD in Epidemiology from The Ohio State University (1999.) Later he taught at Utah State University in the Veterinary Department for several years prior to working for Pfizer Pharmaceutical located in Michigan as a research epidemiologist. Howard worked as a clinical Veterinarian in various hospitals in Kalamazoo. One of Howards greatest accomplishments was owning and running Companion Animal Hospital in Safford, Arizona. After his diagnosis, Howard worked at home as a research epidemiologist consultant for Feedlot Cattle corporation out of Canada until his disease inhibited him from working.

Howard married his sweetheart, Christine Olsen, in the Logan LDS Temple in December 1987. The summer after Howard graduated from BYU, upon his sister Janet's insistence, he attended a summer institute dance at the Golden Toaster where he and Chris met. He told her that he would remember her phone number, (which she doubted) and call her for a date. To her surprise, he remembered the phone number and the rest is history. He and Chris had the blessing of raising four amazing children. As a family we lived in Washington, Utah, Idaho, Ohio, Michigan and back to Utah after Howard’s diagnosis. Along the way, Howard and Chris made many dear friends that have enriched and blessed their lives.

Howard had many interests such as swimming, running and cycling. He rode in many bike tours alone and with family and friends. Howard kept physically and mentally active which, along with God's intervention, helped him out live his original diagnosis of 6-18 months, by 11 ½ years.

Howard also enjoyed improving our homes. In Michigan, he constructed from start to finish an entire basement, he dug a french drain around the perimeter of the yard. He built 5 raised garden beds, sandboxes, planted fruit trees, constructed a butterfly enclosure for Chris’s elementary class and kept all of our homes looking beautiful as he attended to the,“Perfect lawn”.

Howard was a wonderful father attending football games, band competitions, track and field meets, dance recitals, plays and many other activities that his children participated in. Howard loved and cherished each of his children and did all that he could do to enrich their lives. Howard will be missed more than words can tell. He held on to see all of his children graduate from high school and serve LDS Missions. He was here for two marriages and the birth of three grandchildren. He will leave a legacy of hard work, love and laughter.

Howard is survived by his eternal companion Christine. His four children, Carl H. (Amy) Bingham of Perris, CA, Scott D. Bingham of Providence, UT, Dallin T. (Kayla) Bingham of Logan, UT, and Rachel C. Bingham of Provo, UT. His three grandchildren Dean C. Bingham, Deacon H. Bingham and Reagan N. Bingham.  Howard also leaves behind his father, Carl W. Bingham; and his siblings, Shirleen (Jeff) Gardner, Elaine (Skip) Cederquist, Barbara (Bill) Kershaw, Diane (Val) Nielsen, Janet (Dan) Davis, Karen (Gene) Godfrey, and Neal (Colette) Bingham.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Bingham and by a brother, Ron (Kim) Bingham.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at CNS Hospice who have watched through this hard journey with us as well as all our family and friends that have supported us along the way.
