LaVon Clark Broome

Hazel LaVon Clark Broome, age 98, passed away in Lewiston, Utah, on August 19, 2022.

Born July 15, 1924, in Honey Creek, Iowa, to George Major and Hazel Knight Clark, she married Harry M. Broome, April 10, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died October 12, 2003.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and blessed countless lives through her ceaseless service in the organizations of the church. She especially cherished her many years of serving the children in the Primary organization, including a significant number of years as the stake primary secretary. Her lifelong love of all uplifting music was particularly amplified when it came to the Primary songs, through which she sought and taught peace in their simple, but foundational messages of the Savior’s love for us all.

She didn’t enjoy being singled out for anything, but was once clearly at the pinnacle of joy when Craig Jessop, former director of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square personally sang to her on her 90th birthday. She found delight in gardening, always had a heightened love for her roses and welcomed no weeds anywhere at anytime in her yard — even when her health finally necessitated the need for others to police the perimeters. She also found comfort and happiness in the soothing repetitions of cross stitching and embroidery. She retired years ago after 25 years as a receptionist and much-loved team member in Dr. Don Bennion’s, dental practice in Salt Lake City.

We’ll forever remember her for the wonderfully lifting sense of humor that she often used to help others get through life’s stumbling blocks and trials — in the end, she relied upon it herself (and, OK, maybe sharing some chocolate) to get through her own.

She is survived by two sons; Brent C. (Sheila), Pleasant View, Utah; Kent W. (Kathy), Lyons, Colorado; daughter Holly (Gill) Hyer, Lewiston, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, a sister and two grandchildren.

The family recognizes the dedicated, angelic efforts shown to our mother and grandmother through the tender care and service of medical providers, palliative care professionals and our own loved ones. We remain both humbled and eternally grateful.

At her request there will be no viewing. Graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27j, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lewiston City Cemetery, Lewiston, Utah. In lieu of flowers please give to the Humanitarian Aid (Latter-day Saint Charities) or to a charity of your choice. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
