George Arlend Poole

George Arlend Poole, 81, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born March 31, 1937 in Preston, Idaho to William and Georgia Hyde Poole.  He was born several minutes before his twin sister, Georgia Arlene Poole.  He was also welcomed by an older sister, Maxine.  Eventually a younger sister, Virginia, and three younger brothers; Bill, Doug, and Rick joined the family.

He attended grades 1-8 at the Whitney School and then attended Preston High School.  He graduated with the class of 1955.  He attended BYU for several semesters, but finally gave up advanced schooling to work on the farm.

He was seriously injured in a farming accident suffering 3rd degree burns on both of his legs that required extensive skin grafting.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Samoan Islands from 1957-1960.  He grew to love the Samoan people and became fluent in their language.

Upon returning home he became reacquainted with Cleo Hulet, a fellow Preston High School graduate.  They courted for nine months and were married in the Logan LDS Temple on December 6, 1963.  They were blessed with 6 children – 4 boys and 2 girls.

Dad loved farming and the farmers he worked with during his time as parts manager at Palmer’s and Lindhardt International.  Many a family outing was interrupted when a farmer called and needed a part to finish up the work they were doing.

He was a humble man who went about quietly serving those around him.  He served in the LDS Church as a youth leader, Stake Sunday School Superintendent, Elder’s Quorum President, Bishopric counselor, Single Adult representative, and dance instructor with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo; sons, John (Julie Piffer), Robert (Rebecca Glauser), & Curtis (Lori Poppleton) and his daughters, Julie (Sean) Benson and Melanie (Inosi) Naga; his brothers, Bill (Maxine Fellows), Doug (Debbie Smith), and Rick (Debbie Coburn) and his sisters Maxine (Richard) Knight and Virginia Flippence.  He and Cleo have 23 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Georgia; twin sister, Arlene; son, David Poole; and brother-in-law, Larry Flippence.
