Evelyn Carol Godfrey passed away, surrounded by family, on February 28, 2023, of natural causes. She was born on December 23, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Pearl Nichols and Chester Samworth.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Jay Godfrey, at her parent’s restaurant in Bishop, California. He was on his mission at the time. They were married in the Logan temple on March 6, 1953, in Utah.
Evelyn was an avid baseball fan. She enjoyed watching Giants and Dodger games. She also enjoyed watching Lakers games. Evelyn enjoyed movies, especially her favorites Elvis and John Wayne. Bowling was a passion of Evelyn’s. She enjoyed bowling and coaching the youth bowlers. She loved this so much she even worked as a telemarketer at Vista Lanes in Palmdale.
Evelyn is survived by her five daughters and three sons: Rhonda (Bobbie) Winward of Pocatello, Idaho; Joyce (John) Dantzscher of Scottsdale, Arizona; Laura (Kenneth) DeMille of LaVerkin, Utah; Sandra (George) Vardoulakis of Orange County, California; Shawna (Michael) Vincent of San Dimas, California; Kelly (Dione) Godfrey of Littlerock, Arkansas; Kevin Godfrey of Clearfield; Kyle (Elizabeth) Godfrey of Santa Clarita, California; by 29 grandchildren; by 32 great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Merlin Samworth, Vernon Samworth, by her husband Jay Godfrey, and by a granddaughter, Jennifer Pippin.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 656 S. Grand Ave., Covina, California. Burial will be on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Clarkston Utah Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
