Eva Joyce Swainston Perry

After a remarkable and eventful turn on this earth for more than a century, Joyce Perry has moved on to her next adventure. She was born Eva Joyce Swainston on December 5, 1924, in Preston, Idaho, to Howard and Neva Swainston, and then raised on a farm in Whitney, Idaho, with her three siblings. On October 2, 1942, she married LeRoy John Perry in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to a farm in Treasureton, Idaho, where they raised their six children.

Joyce was a hard worker always, both tending to farm work and keeping a pristine home. Her family’s life was a simple and rich one, with frequent family outings to a nearby canyon for picnics and campouts. In addition to her own kids, Joyce cared for many other children along the way, making them feel like they were part of her family.

Joyce was an avid reader (a member of a Book Club for many years), quilter, and gardener, raising bountiful flower beds and lawns that were the pride of her communities.

After LeRoy passed away, she married his widowed brother Glenn in the Logan Temple in 2005. She remarked that, conveniently, she didn’t have to change her name. The two families blended beautifully. They spent many enjoyable years in Idaho Falls and in Perry, Utah. They were able to travel to many fun places, and join in family activities with their wide range of descendants.

Though Joyce was visited by more than her share of loss and tragedy, she always managed to maintain her quirky, wry wit, a refusal to take things too seriously. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many capacities.

Joyce is survived by three of her children: Blair (Jeanne) Perry of Honeyville, Utah, Val (Carrie) Perry of Ivins, Utah, and Julie Williams (Jerry) of Roy, Utah. She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren as well as a sister Neva Ann Geddes (Adrian) and daughters-in-law Linda Perry and Omaira Perry.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands, LeRoy Perry and Glenn Perry. Parents, Howard and Neva Swainston, siblings Howard DeWitt Swainston and Sannette Swainston Smith, sons, Craig Perry and Mark Perry, and daughter, Kathleen Perry Haslam. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Douglas Perry, John David (J.D.) Haslam and two great grandchildren – Stockton Perry and Finley Scadlock.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Springs for their loving care of Joyce.
