Etta Mae Buttars

Etta Mae Buttars passed away at the age of 86 on July 12, 2017 due to natural causes. She was born in Preston,Idaho on March 7, 1931 to Adam Wilson “Chip” and Orris Clements Carpenter. 

She grew up in Oxford Idaho with her 9 brothers and sisters. Keith, Charles, Lucille, Irene, Reid, Eldon, Howard, Boyd and Mary. 

 

Etta Mae enjoyed pleasing everyone around her with her cooking skills. She cooked at The Snooty Cat Cafe, The Franklin Cafe, The Idaho Cafe, and The Elks Lodge where she was known as the "expert" for her Deep Fried Jumbo Shrimp. She worked and retired from Presto after 19 years. 

 

She met and married Sheldon Nelson and together had 2 children, David Sheldon and Kathleen Francis. They were later divorced. 

 

In 1955, she married the love of her life, Val Buttars. Their family grew to include five more children including Terry, Alana, Denise, Todd and Julie. 

 

After retirement, she and Val spent their time camping with family, cooking Dutch oven, and doing their much enjoyed yard work.  She loved her family and touched so many lives around her. 

 

Etta Mae is preceded in death by her husband Val; by her sons, Terry and Todd; by a son-in-law, Barry Sohn;  by a granddaughter Patty; by her parents and her siblings, Lucille, Keith, Reid, and Irene. She is survived by her siblings Charles, Elden, Howard, Boyd and Mary. She is also survived by son, David (Sheryl) Nelson; daughters, Kathleen (Steve) Andrew, Alana Buttars, Denise Sohn, Julie (Jeff) Olsen and Joyce Buttars and by 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and by 5 great-great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 1st South, Preston, Idaho with Bishop Tim Golightly conducting.  Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the stake center.  Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
