Ella Taylor Smith

PRESTON, IDAHO ELLA T. SMITHPRESTON- On October 8, 2008, Ella Taylor, after nearly 94 years of experiences and memories ended her journey here on earth to return home.Ella was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Preston, Idaho, to John Ole and Mary Anorah Perkins Taylor. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Cache Valley filled with days working in the fields, playing with friends and family, and preparing for community bonfires in her parents' large orchard.Grandma Smith, as she was known by so many, completed her education up to the 8th grade, at which point she began working to help support her widowed mother and family. For so little time actually spent in an academic setting, she possessed an immense amount of knowledge and was one of the wisest women we knew.At the age of 20, she met and fell in love with Kenneth Smith. They were married in Logan, Utah on April 29, 1934 and were sealed a year later in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity. During their first few years of marriage, the country was at war and entering the Great Depression. Ken and Ella were fortunate enough to obtain a construction position working on building an Air Force base. This allowed Ken to stay in the states together with Ella and the two children they had been blessed with: Derald, who later married Merlene Nelson currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah; and Norma who later married Keith Bosworth, currently residing in Preston.Grandma Smith was loved and adored by 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. They will miss her wit, charisma, and love of life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gilbert Smith; 3 brothers, Harris Lavon, Clyve Lorenzo, and John Oral; 4 sisters, Annorah, Therma, Myrl, and Thora; one grandson, Blaine Smith, one grandson-in-law, Derek Hinckley, and by one great-grandchild, Kehmer D. Hinckley.Grandma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed many years of service in her various callings. She was also an amazing example of enthusiasm, courage and perseverance. She touched all our lives and will be missed greatly. The family would like to express its appreciation to the Franklin County Medical Center staff and doctors who helped support them. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. in the Preston Seventh Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, with Bishop Phil Abrams conducting. Friends may call Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
