Edwin Shaffer Hendrickson

Edwin Shaffer Hendrickson, 90, of Preston, Idaho, passed away peacefully in Rock Springs, Wyoming on August 26th, 2025.

Born on April 9th, 1935, in Preston, Idaho to Virgil Fremont & Edith Esther Hendrickson. Edwin lived a life of faith, service and devotion to his Family, Country and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Edwin graduated from Preston High School in 1953. Two years later, in May of 1955, he served an LDS mission in the New England States and returned home in May of 1957. Two short months later, Edwin married his eternal companion, JoAnn Griffeth on July 22, 1957, in the Logan Temple. Two months after they were married, Edwin was drafted into the Army and served in Germany. Together they raised six children in a home filled with love, laughter, hard work and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A faithful member of the church, Edwin served in numerous callings including Elders Quorum. He and JoAnn served a church mission on the church farms in Dayton, Idaho.

Edwin had several jobs throughout his life. He worked for the railroad, ran a service station in Rigby, drove a school bus for Dayton schools, worked for the forest service and in between all these jobs, raised kids and taught them how to work hard on the farm.

Edwin cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren, teaching them to hunt and fish whilst sharing stories of his childhood. JoAnn was the love of his life and was by his side during all his adventures.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, his son, Robert and grandson Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Joann; their children, (Debbie) Hendrickson, Donna (Bill) Schmidt, Roxanne (Brian) Cook, Clarissa (Kelly) Hunter, Zane (Vickie) Hendrickson, Jowin (Jeremiah) Malcolm; 21 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 12 pm in the Dayton LDS Chapel, 825 N Westside Hwy, Dayton, Idaho. Viewings will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, Idaho and again prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 am Saturday at the church.
