Dayton, Idaho Earl H. WardDayton - Earl H. Ward passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family Saturday morning, December 27, 2008. Earl was born February 16, 1937, to Hyrum J. Ward and Zatell Westover Ward in Preston, Idaho. He moved to Clifton when he was six to a farm near Oxford. He received all his schooling at West Side High School, where he made lifelong friends and celebrated with classmates at class reunions. He developed a lasting love for sports as a student at West Side. During his life Earl was a devoted supporter of all West Side sports missing very few games throughout his life. Earl married his high school sweetheart, Anna Mae Mills on June 5, 1959. They are the proud parents of four children. Earl spent most of his life in Dayton, Idaho where he farmed row crops and raised cattle. One of Earl's favorite pastimes was watching his children and grandchildren show beef cattle and horses. Earl served the Lord in the North Central States Mission. He also volunteered 25 years on the Franklin County Fair Board. He loved the rodeo and never missed the Preston Night Rodeo until 2008. He was employed by the Twin Lakes Canal Company for 25 years and enjoyed getting to know the farmers on the canal system. Earl was elected to the Dayton City Council in 1974; he was elected major in 1976. He devoted time and energy in the digging of a new city well, building a city park and tennis courts at the high school, which is an important milestone to our community. Earl developed a great love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He spent many hours with family and friends in the hills above the west side and surrounding lakes. He built many lasting relationships through his knowledge and recognition of quality cattle and horses. He always had cattle and horses on his farm. Earl is survived by his wife Anna Mae Mills Ward, of Dayton; Deanna (Kim) Baird, of Idaho Falls, ID; Melanie (Hank) Povey, of Clifton, ID; Lynette (Steve) Buttars, of Weston, ID; Richard (Angela) Ward of Clifton, ID; 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Clarice Hatch.Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 12:00 noon in the Clifton 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop Lauritz Smith conducting. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Clifton LDS Church and Wednesday prior to the services from 10-11:30 am also at the church. Interment will be in the Clifton Cemetery.
