Douglas Ward Thornock

Douglas Ward Thornock, 80, of Preston, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 6, 2025, with his wife, Pamela, by his side.

Doug was born on June 14, 1945, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Owen D. and Ada Ward Thornock. He spent his early childhood in St. Anthony and later grew up in Idaho Falls, where he developed an appreciation for the outdoors and learned the values of hard work, service, and faith that would guide him throughout his life.

Doug served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand. Shortly after returning, he met Pamela Geddes at Utah State University, and they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on September 14, 1967. Together, Doug and Pam shared 58 years filled with love, humor, and unwavering support for each other, strengthened by the challenges they faced and overcame together.

They raised six children—Scott, Matthew, Jed, Laurie, Jill, and Natalie—and were also blessed to share their home with their foster son, Nial, who remains a cherished part of their story. Doug’s work took their family across Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, and Oklahoma. In every new place, they established a home, raising their children, welcoming grandchildren, serving in the Church, and building lifelong friendships.

Doug devoted his life to providing for his family and gave his best to everything he did. He earned a reputation for integrity, hard work, and, most importantly, kindness, and was deeply respected and loved by those who knew him. He found success not in what he achieved, but in the faith he lived by and the love and commitment he and Pam cultivated within their marriage and home.

Doug found joy in the simple pleasures of life. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, skiing, playing tennis, and golf. He loved taking care of his lawn and garden and watching sports, especially football, when he could cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs. Music was always part of Doug’s life. He played the trumpet when he was young, the piano throughout his life, and sang faithfully in the church choir for many years. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner and had a natural way of connecting with others from all walks of life.

Just before retirement, Doug was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease that gradually limited his mobility. He endured many years of chronic pain and health challenges, yet faced each day with patience and remarkable strength. Doug’s faith and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ sustained him through every hardship.

Though he will be dearly missed, his loved ones find comfort in knowing they will be together again. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and devotion to those he loved most.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela, and their six children and spouses: Scott (Jenie), Matt (Anna), Jed (LeeAnn), Laurie (Ben), Jill (Dan), Natalie and his twenty-one grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Ada Thornock, his brother, Blaine Thornock, and his grandson, Robert “Bobby” Sill.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Winder Ward LDS Chape. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.
