Doug grew up in a loving home that taught him to be both hardworking and fun-loving. His childhood chores included feeding cows, hoeing sugar beets and teasing his sisters. He loved animals and was especially fond of his dog Buddy and his horse Taco who accompanied him on his many adventures.
Doug loved sports and was an exceptional athlete. His favorite sports included basketball, where he helped his high school team win the state championship; and fast-pitch softball, where his diligent practice of throwing the ball against the barn helped him pitch his way into the All-Church tournament in Salt Lake City.
Doug served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Mission where his faith and love for his Heavenly Father and for his Savior became a foundational part of his life and future church service. Prayer led him to the decision to attend Brigham Young University where he earned a degree in Business Management and met his eternal companion.
Doug and Deborah (Smith) were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 22, 1974, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Together they have six children and 15 grandchildren. Doug shared his love for hard-work and fun with his family through sports, adventures, stories and songs.
Doug had many leadership responsibilities that included a Bishop and a Stake President in the Granger West Stake. He was loved for his caring service and wise counsel. Doug also worked as the Senior Vice President for the Bank of Utah-Salt Lake branch. Doug and Debbie served as full-time missionaries in the San Jose California Mission.
Doug is survived by his wife Deborah, four sons and a daughter: Brian (Amy), Michael (Amber), Janene, Clinton (Jennifer), Jeffrey (Tawni), 15 grandchildren, two sisters and a brother (Maxine Knight, Virginia Flippence, Richard Poole).
