Donovan Jacob Zollinger, 85, peacefully passed away at home on January 4, 2024.  He was born August 8, 1938, in Logan, Utah.

Donovan was raised in College Ward, the oldest of eight children to Floyd Aikele and LaVon Perkins Zollinger. His family owned a dry farm in Winder, Idaho, where he spent many summers working with his father and siblings.  His family also owned and operated a poultry farm in College Ward.

Donovan went to elementary school in a two-room schoolhouse in College Ward and attended Junior High School in Wellsville, Utah. After graduating from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah. Donovan served a mission in the South African-Rhodesian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 

After returning from his mission, he continued his studies at Utah State University.  During that time, he met and married Flora Rae Roberts of Liberty, Idaho where they both continued their studies. They raised a family of six children.

 He graduated from Utah State University in 1964 with a degree in Automotive Technology and moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he worked for General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear Division as a design engineer in the field of Polymers.

Donovan has always been very active in the church. He has served as a Nursery leader, Quorum advisor, Bishop, and many other callings. He and his wife served missions in Ireland and in the Salt Lake City church headquarters.

Donovan has enjoyed serving in the Boy Scouts of America as a pack leader, cub scout leader, on the Boy Scout district counsel in Saginaw receiving his District award of merit and his Silver Beaver Award. He also received a District Award of Merit in the Franklin Idaho district of BSA.

Donovan has always loved old tractors, old cars, new cars, hunting, and woodworking. After his retirement he and his wife toured the country visiting museums, “thousands” of tractor shows, and he enjoyed taking photos of old farm machinery, covered bridges, and lighthouses.

Donovan is survived by his wife, Flora Roberts Zollinger of Fairview, Idaho; by six children, Mark (Monica) Zollinger of Saginaw, Michigan; Shaunna (Rick) Pancheri of Howe, Idaho; Gregg (Jill) Zollinger of Franklin, Tennessee; Rene’e (Brady) Skidmore of Peoria, Arizona; Eric (Charlene) Zollinger of Newberry, Michigan; and Timothy Zollinger of Saginaw, Michigan; by 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and by his siblings:  Roger Zollinger, Anita Rindlasbacher, Doyle Zollinger, Leatha Allred, Orvid Zollinger and Alvin Zollinger. Donovan was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Zollinger.

The family would like to thank the staff at FCMC Home Health and Hospice and all those who helped in so many ways. Your kind thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Ward, 165 West 4800 South: Preston, Idaho. Prior to the service a viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30. Interment services will follow at the Providence Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com.
