December 10, 1920 — April 8, 2014

Don R. Carter

Dad was born on a cold, blustery winter day December 10, 1920, to Grace Rallison and Noel James Carter one of five boys and two girls. Dad went to work at an early age for a nearby neighbor earning four dollars a week feeding cattle, haying, thinning and harvesting sugar beets.

He got his start with beef cattle during his high school years. In 1939, he took his prize bull to the San Francisco Fair and won his class over eight hundred other entries. He loved people. He once stated, "These are mighty good people we work with. There are no more honorable people in the world then these cattle people."

Dad married Irene Millward from Fairview, Wyoming on May 26, 1943. After her passing, he married Ranee Lamoreaux. They were later divorced.

Don owned and operated The Trading Post in Preston since 1970. During his whole life he bought and sold cattle to associates throughout the entire Intermountain West and the Midwestern United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Irene Millward and by four brothers and his parents. Dad leaves behind four children; Kathleen Kunz of Preston, Idaho; Bette (John) Garfield of Island Park, Idaho; Kevin (Julie) Carter of Preston, Idaho; Debbie (Blake) Willis of Rexburg, Idaho; eighteen grandchildren and two sisters, Connie (Carrol) Maughan of Ogden, Utah and Ellen Hindman of Pocatello, Idaho. Happy trails to you until we meet again Dad!
