It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved hero, David Ray Gregersen, age 70, of Franklin, Idaho. David passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side following a brief but courageous three-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
David was a loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy; just days shy of their 49th wedding anniversary. Hew was immensely proud of his two sons, Adam and Justin, and cherished his role as “Papa” to three grandchildren who knew that if something was broken, Papa could fix it.
His life’s purpose was to be a good husband, father, provider, and friend – and he fulfilled that mission with unwavering dedication.
David served a two-year-mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New York Rochester Mission. While working and performing at the Hill Cumorah Pageant, his work ethic stood out, and he was offered a job to return after his mission concluded. After marrying Dorothy on November 11, 1976, they packed up and moved out to Palmyra, New York where they lived for several years.
In 1980, David began a long career with the California Correctional Officers Association at Folsom Prison. David built a reputation of compassion where instead of punishing or “writing up” inmates for infractions, he would have them do pushups instead, earning the respect of both colleagues and the inmates. He and Dorothy purchased their home in Franklin, Idaho before his retirement and moved there permanently in 2008.
David’s faith was central to his life. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and expressed it through many heartfelt poems. He found joy in golf, tacos, singing, giving FloBee haircuts and operating his skidsteer. If you were lucky enough to call David a friend, you had a friend for eternity.
He loved a good joke and with a servants heart and a joyful spirit he was always ready to lend a hand – whether fixing, packing, moving and modifying anything. His legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love lives on in all who knew and adored him. David will forever be present in our most cherished memories and deeply missed until we are able to be joyfully reunited in the eternities.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Cub River Ward LDS Chapel, 5307 East Cub River Road. Preston, Idaho 83263. As per Davids wishes and the wishes of his family, no luncheon will be served. A visitation and cookies will follow in the cultural hall.
