Darlene Barnes (Green), age 92, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho. Born on July 27, 1933, in Franklin, Idaho, Darlene lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
Darlene was the daughter of Glen LeRoy Green and Cynthia Elda Neeley Green. She grew up in Farmington, Utah. She carried the values of hard work and kindness throughout her life. In 1950, she married Leland Barnes, with whom she shared a loving partnership of nearly 70 years until his passing in 2019. Together, they raised five children in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Darlene had a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from 1968 to 1987. Her compassionate nature shone through in her work as she cared for others during their times of need. In addition to her nursing career, Darlene also drove a school bus—a role that allowed her to connect with young people in her community.
A woman of many talents and interests, Darlene found joy in quilting and sewing, painting, canning, and gardening. Her creative spirit was evident in the beautiful quilts she crafted and the gardens she tended. These hobbies brought her great satisfaction and were a testament to her industrious nature.
Faith played an integral role in Darlene’s life. She cherished serving alongside her husband in various capacities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they worked at the LDS employment office and served as temple workers at the Boise Idaho Temple. They also embarked on a meaningful mission to Cove Fort, Utah. These experiences reflected their shared commitment to helping others and deepening their faith.
For two decades, Darlene enjoyed living on ten acres of serene forested land in Rathdrum, Idaho—a place that brought her peace and happiness. Known for her warm smile and friendly demeanor. Those who knew her were drawn to her kind heart and genuine spirit.
Darlene is survived by her daughters Pat (Jim) Henderson and Cynthia (Marshall) Talbot; sons Bill Barnes and Steve Barnes; as well as 22 grandchildren, about 75 great grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leland Barnes; son Kerry Barnes; brother Dale Green; sister Cleone Zavaslak; father Glen Green; and mother Cynthia Elda Neeley Green.
Darlene’s memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. May her legacy of kindness, creativity, and faith continue to inspire all who knew her.
