Washougal, Washington — Clayne Oliverson Choules, 89, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his children, on Father’s Day, June 21, 2026.

Born on March 18, 1937, and raised in Fairview, Idaho, Clayne joined the United States Air Force at age 18, proudly serving his country from 1955 to 1958. Following his military service, he moved to Ridgefield, Washington, in the early 1960s, where he built a long career working as a dedicated machinist for Schurman Machine. He later settled in Washougal in the mid-1980s.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Nunes Choules, as well as three sisters, Louise, Ruth, and Helen, and two brothers, Nathan and Charles. He had four children, Steve, Craig, Brent, and Lori and 5 step-children, Debbie, Mark, Cherie, Buddy and Tami, along with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will remember him fondly. Clayne was especially proud and recently excited to learn that his great-granddaughter, Kaylah, is following in his footsteps by joining the Air Force.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Vancouver Barracks National Cemetery. Clayne will then return to his Idaho roots to be laid to rest. A graveside service and military honors will take place at the Fairview Idaho Cemetery in Preston, Idaho, on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
