Carol Diane Goff was born on July 8, 1951, to Emery Ielo and Luella Grace Goff. She unexpectedly passed away at her home on February 21, 2026, age 74. Carol was the 6th of 7 children and loved by all of her siblings. She was gifted at making and building lasting relationships. This was cultivated from a very young age and became stronger throughout her life. She grew up in a home with parents who loved her and who, along with older siblings, did their very best to provide.
Family has always been the center of her life. Her siblings were among her first tutors, mentors, and heroes. Particularly her older sister JoAnn, who sadly passed away while Carol was in high school, left an everlasting impression on her. Even after JoAnn’s marriage, JoAnn continued to serve and love her younger sister, Carol, in very formative ways. In 3rd grade Carol’s teacher confirmed her suspicion that Carol could not see the blackboard. Discussing this with her teacher, Carol confessed there was an issue with her vision, but money was tight and she didn’t want to strain the budget more. JoAnn learned of the problem and purchased the needed glasses. Carol never took for granted her ability to see. Carol served. Countless acts of service she received in her youth, set in motion Carol's lifelong devotion to others. Her favorite scripture was D&C 64:33 “... be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation for a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.” Carol lived these principles. Her unwearied well-doing meant that no one went unnoticed. She was mindful of the small details as she served - remembering how her family had served her.
She served in everything from “room mom” in her kid’s elementary school to cub scouts, and primary children. Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, a Logan Utah Temple Worker, and in her other church assignments and ministering one-by-one. On the City Council and the Library Board, all as the Spirit prompted. In her journal from her last mission she wrote, “...I have had it made clear to me that my service has been and will continue to be a great strength to me and my children-especially my grandchildren…” All who knew Carol, knew she loved her Savior and that is why she served. Carol left a legacy of faithful, “small things” service and her posterity will forever be blessed.
She attended school in Sandy, Utah. She was recognized for being the top Home-Economic student in her class and was also involved in the Charlonians (Drill Team) and Theater. She loved being able to say she was a Jordan High School, Beetdigger, Class of 1969. After high school she attended University of Utah, and midway through her first year of French classes, she began dating Ron Mumford and became engaged shortly after he had returned from his Great Italian Mission. They were engaged on Memorial Day of 1971. When Ron proposed - the song “Monday, Monday” by the Mamas and the Papas was on the radio. This tune became a happy anthem in their marriage and Mondays remained an ever-special day of the week.
Ron and Carol were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27,1971. This union and the place in which it was performed became the foundation of their marriage and the focus of their relationship. Every stage of their lives revolved around the temple, and they stayed true to their covenants. They made a goal to serve a mission as a couple and would discuss these plans often while they had young children at home. This never changed. The dream became a reality when they were able to serve their first mission to Manhattan, New York Temple, and a 2nd mission to the Utah Salt Lake Headquarters collecting Church histories and journals from Mission Leaders and pioneer members in newly opened areas. Ron’s desire to return to Italy with Carol became a shared vision and reality when they were called to the Rome, Italy Temple - a punctuation of their love for missionary work. She gave a yeoman's effort to learn, practice and serve in Italian, and ever-served others with meals and other acts of giving.
Ron and Carol were equally yoked as they devoted their lives to God and then each other. Carol, an amazing homemaker, loved being a wife, mother to 8 children, and Grammy to 41. She was their best cheerleader. If teams could win based on the fervor and decibel level from one fan - her progeny would be undefeated. We have no doubt that she continues cheering on her posterity from heaven, if they listen closely . . . .
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Ron; their children, Missy, Lincoln (Hollie), Duke (Kate), Brad (Cassi), Katie (Sam), and Kyle (Sachi); and her daughters-in-law, Michelle and Lissa. She is also survived by 41 grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Jane, Blaine (Lynnette), Glen (Linda), and Mike (Cindy). She was preceded in death by her sons, Marcus and Bryce, and by her siblings, JoAnn and Ralph.
