Brent Thompson Windley

Brent Thompson Windley, 73, passed away Jan. 29, 2018 in Preston, Idaho. He was born Jan. 30, 1944 in Montpelier, Idaho. He was the second (and to hear him tell it, best) son in the family. He was raised on a farm in Thatcher, Idaho. He joined the Navy at 16 and served on the Aircraft Carrier The U.S.S. Ticonderoga. He left the Navy in 1967 and returned to Idaho with a backpack full of experiences and a plethora of exotic art work forever embedded on his skin.

He met and married Janet Comish in 1968. They produced four amazing children together. He worked for Utah Power and Light for over 25 years. When he left the power company he pretty much did whatever he wanted to do, and nothing he didn’t want to.

Brent was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting. Over the course of his life he hunted everything from geese and ducks to deer and elk. And Moose. And Antelope. And bear. And a wild boar once. He and his boys took a hunting trip to Alaska where one son harvested a caribou. They then spent several days trekking back to civilization with a grizzly trailing them. He didn’t hunt that bear.

Brent was a man with very strong opinions and he was not afraid to voice them. He believed that virtually everyone on the planet was an ass of some sort; smart, dumb, ornery, or hole and he would let you know which one you were. He was definitely one of the smart ones.

He loved kids, and they loved him. He was involved with Scouting for years and coached Little League Baseball several summers. Everywhere he went he always managed to find a kid to joke around with.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents Effie and Lorin Hoopes and Armand Windley, his brother Gary, and his wife Janet. He is survived by all four amazing children: Debbie Wilson, Travis (Rebecca) Windley, Lance (Diane) Windley and Lori (Dave) Campbell and enough grandchildren and great grandchildren to populate a large, well defended compound at a secret location in his beloved mountains.
