Bonnie Lou McDermott Ball

On the eleventh day of the seventh month of the year 2026, Bonnie Lou McDermott Ball returned to her heavenly home.

Bonnie entered this world on May 4, 1941. She was the firstborn child of newlyweds Lew and Zenda McDermott in Preston, Idaho. Raising their first child was challenging for Zenda and Lew. When Bonnie was just over two months old, she rolled off a cot on the porch. Poor Zenda was frantic with worry all night long, but little Bonnie had only a bruise on her forehead. Then, on the morning of her first birthday, she broke out with red measles and had to celebrate her birthday in a dark room.

Over the years, Lew and Zenda added eight more children to the family, giving Bonnie plenty of help with the farm chores. Working side by side with her siblings to complete the relentless work, she learned the value of hard work.

In high school, Bonnie was president of the girls' marching corps and loved sewing clothing for her high school fashion show. A young man from her class named Mel was captivated by Bonnie's fiery red hair and asked her out on a date to go dancing. That was the beginning of a lifelong romance that led to their marriage in the Logan Temple in 1960.

Two years later, the happy couple moved to Seattle, Washington, where they started a family and welcomed five children over the next 20 years. During this time, Bonnie faithfully served in her ward Primary and later as Relief Society president. Throughout her life, Bonnie enjoyed baking, sewing, crafting, and nurturing babies and children. She had a special bond with infants and especially loved fostering newborn babies. However, when the time came for them to be placed with their adoptive families, it always broke her heart to say goodbye.

In 2009, Bonnie retired and returned to Preston, Idaho, where she built her dream home and spent her winters in St. George, Utah. After enjoying 17 years of retirement, she lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease and passed away on July 11, 2026.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Melvin Ball; her children, LaMont (Tiffany), Mark (Amy), Becky (Don), Mario (Krystal), and Kristina (Isileli); her eight grandchildren, Jessica, Preston, Dillon (Charity), Desiree (Shawn), Brittney (Jake), Eric, Leah, and Luke; and her four great-grandchildren, Kaycee, Lennon, Stevie, and Daisy.

Bonnie's greatest joy was her family, and her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, hard work, and unconditional love that will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, we will cherish her memory and the countless ways she blessed our lives.
