SMITHFIELD, UTAH- Bernice Saunders Hansen, 96, passed away at Williamsburg Retirement Community on November 5, 2013. Bernice was born March 19, 1917, in Hyde Park Utah. She was one of six children born to Alma and Hannah Marie Christensen Saunders.
Bernice married John Elmer Hansen on March 20, 1935 in the Logan Temple. Together Elmer and Bernice had one daughter, Marie Hansen Griffiths (Robert Bud Griffiths). Together they lived in Smithfield, Utah. For the past few years she lived at Williamsburg Retirement Community in Logan, Utah.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. Bernice was also active in the William Hyde Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years.
Bernice and Elmer had one daughter, three grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren. Bernice truly was a very great, great, grandmother. She loved her family and loved to have them in her home.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Tyler (Kathy) Griffiths of River Heights, Utah, Kyle (Tami) Griffiths of Smithfield, Utah, and Lori (Scott) Bunnell of Midvale, Utah. She was preceded in in death by her husband John Elmer Hansen , by her daughter Marie Hansen Griffiths, by a son-in law, Robert (Bud) Griffiths, by four sisters, one brother, and her parents.
Funeral Services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home and will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 12:00 PM at the Smithfield South Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (451 South 250 East, Smithfield, Utah). A visitation will be held at the church prior to the services from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, with Bishop Layne Finlinson of the Smithfield 24th Ward conducting. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
