Weston, IdahoArVella Watts Poulsen WESTON- ArVella Watts Poulsen, 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 24, 2008, at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah. ArVella was born on January 4, 1920 in a small house on West Center Street in Smithfield, the home of her parents Joseph Henry and Leona Bair Watts. She was the second of three children with her older brother F. J. Watts and younger sister Georgia W. Memmott. ArVella grew up working in the fields thinning sugar beets, picking potatoes, tromping hay and herding the milk cows to and from the pastures. She enjoyed riding horses and represented Smithfield City as rodeo queen at the Richmond Black and White Days celebration. She graduated with honors from North Cache High School then worked as secretary for Smith Feed and Seed in Smithfield then later as secretary for North Cache Seminary in Richmond. She enjoyed performing in community dramas and lived for the Saturday night dances. She married Perth Poulsen in the Salt Lake Temple on June 5, 1940. They first lived with her Aunt Jean and Uncle Harp while they finished construction of their new home on West Center in Smithfield. Denis and Clayne were born in Smithfield then in1948 they moved to Linrose, Idaho where Carlene, LaMont and Scott were born. ArVella worked with her husband Perth in farming and the management of the fresh pack potato plant in Linrose for C.R. England and J.C. Bangerter. Here she kept all of the business and payroll records, which she continued to do for the family farm and cattle business. ArVella was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. She served in all of the auxiliary organizations of the church and enjoyed teaching the gospel to the youth. She served an18 month Stake Mission with her husband in the Utah North Salt Lake Mission. She had a deep testimony of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and shared it frequently with her family. She is survived by four sons and one daughter, Denis P. (Christine) Poulsen, of Mapleton, Utah; Clayne W. (Betty Lou) Poulsen, Cotton Wood Heights, Utah; Carlene P. (Dean) Umpleby, Hyde Park, Utah; H. LaMont (Connie) Poulsen, Smithfield, Utah; Scott J. (Kristy) Poulsen, Smithfield, Utah. Twenty-six grandchildren, sixty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grand child. One sister Georgia W. Memmott, sisters-in-law Norma P. Watts, Eulala (Sam) Peterson, Eula (Leon) Larsen, Norine (Hal) Jensen. She is preceded in death by her husband Perth Poulsen, parents Henry and Leona Watts, brother F.J. Watts, and great-grand child Eva Grace Poulsen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, at 12:00 noon in the Linrose Ward Chapel in Dayton, Idaho with Bishop Blair Waldron conducting. Friends may call Friday, November 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield, Utah Cemetery.
